The rest of the drive home was, to say the least, interesting.
There was so much more that I wanted to talk to Taylor privately about but, with Tyler now all ears and listening to every word, it wasn't possible.
Tyler had seen us kiss. The smirk on his face when he walked back to the car confirmed that he had. Taylor had been adamant about telling him that we were dating, saying it was better to include him after he had seen us kissing. It would also show that he was trusted. However Taylor had to bribe him with a couple of six packs of beer not to say anything to their parents about us dating before he did.
I gathered, from the bribe and the exchanges that he had with Tyler, that telling his parents was something that Taylor was keen on doing himself. I know he had said that they would be supportive but it worried me that his parents wouldn't be and might do something to split us up. I had been in that situation before with Tom and it scared me that it would be a déjà vu moment that we would live to regret.
I played for time by suggesting to Taylor that he held fire on telling them until I had sorted out the Connor situation first so that we could do it together.
Taylor bought it and I just hoped that neither of them would inadvertently let something slip and bring the walls crashing down around their ears. To say I was shitting a brick about that happening is an understatement.
I remained in the car when we dropped Tyler off at their home. Taylor's intention was to just pick up a small bag with a change of clothes and for us to go back to my home. I was tired after staying up late last night talking to Tom, and I assumed that Taylor would be also after their early start and the long drive.
In my mind I thought Taylor would be about ten minutes or so, so I sat back and closed my eyes. Twenty minutes later there was no sign of him and I was just about to phone him when I saw him walking back to the car.
I feared the worst as he didn't have any bag with him.
"Mum's are devious!" He said as he got back into the car. "She knows about us and wants to meet you..... I said you were tired and that, but she insists you pop in for five minutes."
"Fuck! She wants to give me the once over and check me out before she slaughters me."
Taylor laughed and playfully shoved me. "Don't be daft. She's just being a Mum. That's what Mums do, right? Now if it was my Dad insisting on meeting you then I would have started the engine and floored the gas pedal by now."
I did manage to chuckle at his attempt to humour me but I still needed reassurance. "You sure she's not going to kill me?"
Taylor sighed. "No! Would I invite you in if I thought she would?"
"I suppose not...., but what happened? How did she find out?"
Taylor took a hold of my hand. "Mum and Dad are cool about us.., really they are. Although Tyler played a blinder and kept to his side of the bargain, Mum flummoxed me by asking why we had rushed off at the crack of dawn just to drive you home when I had previously mentioned that you had already bought a return train ticket.... You see, I had sort of moaned that Tina and your Dad getting married on the same day had done me out of a free weekend in a fancy hotel. I could tell she was fishing and was wanting to know what had gone on and I couldn't come up with a suitable answer for her. Tyler helped out by saying you had your bag nicked out of your room during the reception party and I volunteered to collect you to save you buying another ticket, which was damned expensive, and the embarrassment of travelling home in a penguin suit. The thing was Mum bought it. It was when she asked why Tyler accompanied me that the game was up."
