It had been a week.
A week of me helping out to the best of my ability, something which extended the Axis's expectations me.
A week of my service and Gil still deemed me untrustworthy.
I curled up in a ball next to Kuma, who I now left inside the room for meals. He had the tendency to beg and I preferred that he didn't.
"Birdie?" His voice was at the door. I really didn't want to speak up. I wasn't interested in talking to him.
Despite my lack of response, the door creaked open and Gilbert came into the room.
He caught sight of me on the floor and stepped forward.
"Birdie, look at me." I felt his hand on my shoulder.
"What do you want?" I growled.
"I do trust you, Birdie. I trust you more than anybody else here." He started.
"Then why did you say you didn't?" I asked. "Why did you have to make them think I'm an outsider?"
"Because it vould mean jou leaving mein room. Und it's awesome having jou around." He admitted. My heart fluttered a bit and I scolded it.
"It's just, after mein bruder died I haven't felt awesome, und jou helped me feel happy again."
I sat up. "Gil."
"I don't vant to be alone, Mattie." He started to cry.
I reached out and pulled him against me.
"You won't have to." I whispered.
I felt him nod. His crying quieted down until we were just embracing in silence.
"Ich Liebe dich." He whispered in German.
"Huh?" I didn't know any German aside from a curse word or two.
"It means I love you, Birdie." He explained.
"Oh." My face went hot. "Je t'aime aussi."
Gilbert pulled himself away from me. He was smiling.
"I zhink I know vhat zhat means."
My face got even hotter. "Awesome."
Gilbert chuckled and then suddenly his lips were on mine.
He was kissing me.
I kissed back, clutching the front of his shirt to keep him from slipping away like the world was right now.
I loved this crazy little German. I never planned to let him go.
