- Elena's POV -
I walk into class with Calum, sitting with him at the back. "So today, I'm going to be pairing you guys up with someone! We're going to be talking about self-harm and suicide." Leia says. For once, she doesn't smile her patronising smile. It seems like she's actually taking this seriously. "Sorry, Leia!" Ashton suddenly walks in and I frown. Why is he here?
"It's fine, Ashton, take a seat! I'm making pairs now!" Leia smiles. She starts putting people into pairs and I end up being paired with Ashton. "Why are you in here?" I ask.
"No reason, they just wanted me in a different class." He says. Then I spot the cut on his lip.
"Ash, why are you lying to me?" I sigh.
"I-I'm not!" He protests.
"What's that cut then?" I frown.
"I just got into a fight with someone, that's all!" He mumbles.
"A fight? Why?" I ask.
"Because he was pissing me off... Just leave it, yeah?" Ashton whispers. I nod, biting my lip.
"Alright class. Now, with your partners, I'd like you to talk about self-harm and suicide." Leia calls out. "Uhm, have you ever... You know?" I say nervously.
"I've not tried suicide..." Ashton answers.
"So, you've?..." I whisper. He nods, pulling some of his bands up his arm to reveal his wrists. That's why he wears so many...
"Have you?" He asks.
"No, neither." I admit.
"This will sound pretty gay, but I love your outfit today!" Ashton says.
"Yeah, that does sound pretty gay." I giggle. Ashton rolls his eyes playfully. I look over to Calum, who's sat with a young boy. I smile as I see him pulling faces to make him laugh. It's strange, because Calum didn't seem like the type of person to try and make people smile at first. But now, he does, and it doesn't feel strange at all. "He's not that bad, is he?" Ashton sighs, looking at me. "No, he's really not." I grin. "How come you, you know..." I gesture to his wrists.
"It was because of my dad... It made me feel so much better about myself." He admits, looking at his feet.
"That's my thing!" I gasp jokingly.
"Yeah, well I took it, so tough!" He sasses. I can't stop laughing at Ashton and I'll admit that I feel like I can happily say he'll always be like family... "Thank you for your behavior today class! Now, it's scheduled for a thunderstorm tonight, one of the worst ones we'll see in Sydney. People will be allowed to mix and share rooms, and that includes a mix of boys and girls! Stay safe today and I'll see you all later!" Leia announces. I start to feel a little sick. I don't do well with thunderstorms... "Hey, Elena!" Michael suddenly jumps on me when I come out of Room 21.
"Ugh! You're so heavy!" I groan as I get up off of the floor.
"Heyyy! Rude!" Michael pouts.
"Yeah, yeah!" I laugh.
"Did you hear about the thunderstorm?" Luke asks as we walk down the hallway.
"Yeah, sounds pretty awesome!" Ashton cheers. Awesome? These guys are nuts!
"Hey, where's Calum?" I ask everyone.
"He left with someone already I think." Ashton replies. Who did he leave with?
"I'm going to find him, see you later?" I smile.
"If you need us, we'll be in my room!" Ashton smiles back. I walk off down the hallway to try and find Calum. When I turn the corner, my eyes nearly pop out of my head. Two people are pretty much eating each others faces right off. The painful part? One of them is Calum...
I let out a small sob and turn around, running back on myself. I can't believe he was kissing someone else! He said he loved me, so was that a lie? When I reach Ashton's room, I'm in a flood of tears. "Elena?!" Ashton frowns with concern.
"What's wrong?!" Michael and Luke gasp.
"C-Calum!" His name is all I manage to choke out.
"What about him? Is he hurt?" Luke questions.
"H-he was k-kissing some-one!" I cry. Ashton tenses up and I see a look of anger wash over his face. "Don't cry over him, Elena, he doesn't deserve the tears." Ashton whispers, wiping my eyes. He gives me a warm hug until I calm myself down. Once I finish crying, the boys decide that we should out to the garden before the storm starts, so we can get some of the sun while it lasts. On the way down the hallway, we bump into Calum. "Hey, Elena!" He smiles, trying to give me a hug. Ashton pushes me back and stands in front of me. "What the fuck, man?!" Calum shouts. I look down, Michael and Luke standing with me.
"You don't get to touch her!" Ashton spits.
"Why not?!" Calum growls.
"You don't get to pretend to love someone when you're kissing other girls!" Ashton hisses. I look up and meet Calum's eye. He sees my hurt expression. "Elena, please!" He begs, trying to get me to feel sorry for him. "No! Don't fucking speak to her!" Ashton argues.
"Piss off! I'll do whatever I fucking want to!" Calum defends.
"Yeah, just like you kissed another girl!" Ashton scoffs.
"Yeah, well she was better than her anyway!" Calum sneers, gesturing to me. I feel my heart shatter into a million pieces. "Guys, take her out to the garden. Now." Ashton says through gritted teeth. "Ashton, don't man." Luke protests.
"Now!" Ashton raises his voice.
Luke and Michael walk with me down the hallway and round a corner. "Guys, what's happening?" I ask.
"It's fine, don't worry about it." Michael smiles nervously.
"You're lying to me! Why can't someone just be honest for once?!" I protest.
"Okay, okay! Ashton's going to try and fight Calum..." Luke admits.
"What?! But he doesn't stand a chance!" I gasp. I begin running back down the hallway.
"Stop!" I shout, running over to the two boys who were about to start fighting.
"Elena, no!" Luke calls out, racing towards me. Calum punches the wall, letting out an angered growl. "You're a worthless bitch anyway!" He growls at me, storming off.
Tears well up in my eyes and I run off, ignoring the sounds of the others calling my name. I spend the rest of the day in my room, ignoring the boys attempts to speak to me. It gets to the evening and the storm has started. I grip my pillow tightly to myself, squeezing my eyes shut. I hate thunderstorms so much. I start letting out small sobs, muffling them into my pillow. Why did he have to hurt me again?
- Calum's POV -
I lay there and listen. Yep, she's definitely crying. Why did I have to be such a dick?! I decide to do the right thing and I get up from my bed, standing outside of her door. I softly knock and wait for an answer. It goes silent for a few minutes and I know she's ignoring it. I walk in and close the door behind me, climbing into her bed and laying down next to her. I wrap my arms around her waist and pull her closer. "Don't cry, beautiful, don't cry..." I whisper into her ear. She turns around and nuzzles into my neck, and I know, or at least hope, that I've been forgiven...
- Elena's POV -
There's a knock on my door and I just ignore it, I still don't want to speak to anyone... I hear my door open and then close, and then I feel someone climbing into the bed next to me. Their arms arms wrap around my waist and I'm pulled closer to them. "Don't cry, beautiful, don't cry..." I hear him whisper. Calum... I turn around and nuzzle into his neck. I can't hate him, I miss him...
*
I wake up to the sound of birds. When I try to sit up, I realise I'm being held down by a pair of arms. I carefully unwrap Calum's arms from around me and smile, staring at him . There's no lessons today, so we don't have to worry about class or anything. I grab my art pad and pencil, sitting carefully next to Calum, making sure not to wake him up. I start drawing. A few minutes pass and I finish the last thing on my picture. "That's really good." I jump at the sound of Calum's voice. "Oh, uh... Thanks." I blush. He takes the book from me and stares at the for a while.
"Who is this of?" He asks me.
"Oh, uh... Us?" I admit, turning redder in the face. A small smile appears on his face and he looks really happy. "Elena, can I say something?" He says.
"Yeah." I smile.
"I'm sorry. I never should've said what I said yesterday and I never should've kissed Sophia. I'm so, so sorry. Please, forgive me!" He apologizes. I stare at him, seeing the pain in his eyes.
"I forgive you," I whisper. He smiles happily and pulls me into him, crashing his lips onto mine again. I missed his kiss. A lot. The kiss deepens and is cut short by the sound of someone cheering. Both me and Calum turn a crimson colour at the sight of Michael and Luke wiggling their eyebrows. Ashton stares at us for a moment, but then gives us a smile that tells me he doesn't mind. "Can I get changed, guys?" I ask.
"Sure! We'll wait in Calum's room." Michael grins. They all shuffle out, but Calum gives me a quick peck on the lips before walking out too. I close my door and grab another outfit to wear. The bruises still hurt, especially as they're fresh from only two days ago... Why did my mum marry such a monster?... I sigh, slipping on my jacket and leaving to see the guys next door...
