I spent my last vacation week getting Angel ready for when I have to go back to work on Monday. The tricky part is that I only got half the maternity leave I was expecting. Their reasoning was that I didn't need as much time to recover, but I disagreed. After some back and forth, I just had to roll with it.
Now, here's the deal with Angel. She's almost three months old and getting more active, but she's developed some pretty strong attachment issues. Since we've been hanging out together all day, every day, she's become super clingy. If I'm not holding her with skin-to-skin contact for more than ten minutes, she starts wailing like there's no tomorrow. It's a habit I'm really trying to break her out of but she's relentless.

As I strolled out of Sovereign, balancing bags of supplies for Angel's upcoming first day at daycare, my phone was practically glued to my ear as I spoke to Anna. Her advice had proven to be an absolute game-changer in my search for the perfect daycare center. She had recommended Baby Genius Daycare, the same place where Brianna had once been a student. The fact that they quickly accepted Angel's application had lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. Thanks to Ricardo's connections with the school, the whole process had gone much more smoothly and quickly than I had anticipated.
Distracted by my conversation with Anna, we delved into the final items on my shopping list, debating which ones were absolutely necessary and which ones were more of a luxury. Suddenly, the familiar sound of a car door clicking open caught my attention but it wasn't my car so I paid no attention. Angel was still fast asleep, so I carefully placed the seat on the ground in front of me and shifted my focus to locating my car keys.
As I reached for the bags on the ground after unlocking the car, my attention was suddenly drawn to a woman standing right behind me. She was staring at Angel with a look of fascination and intrigue, which made me feel uneasy. My heart raced with fear, and I immediately went into protective mode. Without hesitation, I picked up the car seat and placed it safely on the seat next to me, ensuring that Angel was secure and comfortable. Only then did I turn to confront the stranger who had invaded our personal space.
"A wah the fuck yah do?" I inquired, my tone assertive yet laced with a hint of wariness. I couldn't afford to be careless when it came to Mikaela's well-being.
The lady before me maintained a stoic demeanor, her face displaying a gentle smile. However, an eerie sensation lingered within me, refusing to dissipate. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. I couldn't help but admire your baby. She's so peaceful."
Dah woman yah nuh come from bout yah... a foreigna this...
I couldn't help but notice her unmistakable American accent resonating in my ears. However, I remained cautious, not allowing my guard to falter. With a firm tone, I addressed her, "Dat nuh mean yuh fi come stand up backa mi suh a fass pan mi pickney.. a suh yuh approach people weh yuh come from? Can I help you with something?"
