"Nope... Nah accept nothing less than a one hundred and fifty thousand dollars bonus," I stated as I pushed the contract back towards Anthony.

"One hundred and fifty thousand dollars extra? For what exactly? What have you done this year to deserve that kind of bonus?" Georgina said snarkily.

"Well per the company policies Miss Ainswell, financial advisors are entitled to a twenty five thousand dollars bonus per new client that earns above the three million dollar threshold set by the company. This year alone I have brought on twenty new clients, eight of which earn way above three million dollars per year. I have only requested for six of those even though legally I am entitled to two hundred thousand dollars added to my pay check."

They remained silent as I stared them down, Georgina for one was giving me a condescending look while Anthony had a little smile. It was currently employee evaluation time and each year each employee does a sit down with the heads of the company which usually includes the superiors for each office, HR and the CEO, to discuss the yearly bonus and make deals. It's also for the heads to give feedback on the year's work of the employee.

Anthony cleared his throat before responding, "Arielle, while we appreciate your contributions to the team, we've decided that this year's bonus structure will be more conservative due to budget constraints. We're offering a standard bonus of fifty thousand dollars to all financial advisors, and that's already a stretch considering the circumstances."

I leaned back, the tension in the room escalating. "Budget constraints? Funny how the company seems to find money for elaborate events and lavish client dinners, but when it comes to compensating your employees, suddenly there's a constraint."

Georgina cut in, her tone icy, "Miss Thompson, you seem to forget that we granted you a month of paid leave recently. Some may question your commitment to your job."

My patience faltered as I retorted, "I took that leave to mourn my friend, who was another valued member of this team, not to gallivant. Besides, it was approved and has nothing to do with my bonus. Are you implying that I should be penalized for grieving?"

Georgina's expression remained unmoved. "That's not our concern. We need committed individuals on this team. If you're unable to understand that, maybe we need to reassess your position."

Her words struck a nerve. I had endured enough disrespect and condescension from Georgina over the past few weeks, and I was fed up.

From shi come shi tek a piece a set pan mi like seh mi a tek har buddy or something...

In that moment, a surge of doneness coursed through me.

"Alright then. I'm done," I declared, standing up abruptly.
