"Where are we going?" Waverly questioned.

The two of them had been jogging through the woods for almost an hour. The shapeshifter was starting to think the hybrid was fucking with her.

Suddenly, Hadley stopped dead in her tracks.

Waverly jumped back, nearly toppling over the girl. Before she could let her anger get the better of her, she noticed Hadley's ears bouncing from left to right. She heard something.

"What is it?"

Suddenly, an axe struck the tree beside them. Hadley's eyes exploded with color.

Waverly felt her heart skip a beat. She thought she was done with this. Who would be stupid enough to take them on?

"Wait," The shapeshifter snarled. "Did you lead me to them?"

Hadley's gaze shot over to her. She rolled her eyes and kicked out her back legs, jabbing Waverly roughly in the stomach.

She hit the ground hard, about to yell at the hybrid, before another axe flew right above her, just barely missing her head.

Hadley stared at her for a moment, as if she was waiting for a thank you.

Waverly was too wrapped up in the fact that the hybrid had just saved her from being impaled by an axe to notice.

The shapeshifter closed her eyes, counting seven hunters in the trees. She could smell blood...lots of it. They were all injured.

Good.

Waverly's eyes shot open, glowing a bright blue. Hadley glanced back at her and bared her teeth.

Suddenly, the hunters shot out of the trees, running at the wolves with weapons in their hands. A gun was fired.

Just as everything seemed to erupt around them, Hadley snapped back into her human form and threw her arms out.

Purple fire exploded from her hands, blasting each of the hunters with energy.

They all seemed to freeze at once, the axes, guns and knives in their hands, dropping to the ground in unison.

Hadley kept her focus on the shapeshifter in front of her. Waverly hadn't moved from the spot on the ground, staring up at the hybrid with wide eyes.

She could see the blanket of trees above her, the blue hue in the sky and Hadley's purple eyes. It was all so surreal.

Before she had time to ask any questions, the hybrid squeezed her hands into fists. The hunters around them were all englufed in flame.

The humans shrieked and roared in pain, all collapsing to the ground in a sweltering heat.

Waverly could feel the warmth of the fire against her skin. It felt good. Hadley lowered her arms and blew out a breath.

The hybrid shifted back to wolf and continued walking, as if she hadn't just done something extraordinary.

Waverly watched as the humans fell to the ground, becoming eerily quiet.

The shapeshifter leaned forward, listening for their heartbeats. Not a sound.

They were dead.

Just like that?

"You're...amazing." Waverly admitted, pushing herself off of the ground. "Unhinged, but amazing."

Hadley ignored her comment.

"How did you do that?"

The hybrid snarled.
