Two long, boring weeks went by. The same thing happened every day. Will gave away most of his food to different people. Every time, they acted like Will was their savior and every time, they completely ignored me.
The days went by sluggishly. I was ready to go home, but there was no way to escape with the persistent guards or chains. At least, not until I saw the perfect opportunity.
It happened as Will was sharpening some swords and Otto was pounding metal, as I pumped the fire. Then, I saw it: the keys Otto chained us with every day hanging out his pocket. Really, it was easy. I simply leaned forward a bit and slid the key out from his pocket between the pumps. I bent down, kind of like awkwardly stretching, then pushed the key into the lock. The chain clicked and fell off. I quickly sat up, like nothing happened, then slipped the key back into Otto's pocket.
A few minutes later the guard came and Otto went out the door to talk to him.
I didn't tarry a moment before bolting off -- into freedom.
