The next week and a half went by like a dream. Every day I bought as much bread as I could and distributed it to all the poor I could find. I never took more for myself than was necessary. I ate what little I needed to sustain myself and no more. Each night I slept in the streets with the poor, for I deserved no better treatment than they. When I ran out of money, I stole some from those who had more than enough to give to those who had much less.

At least, I did this every day until the guards came.

They were doing a monthly run-through of the town by Prince John's orders when they saw me. I ran as fast as I could but their well-fed bodies and longer legs didn't take long to catch up.
