I still had the taste of him stuck in my mouth, and I never wanted it to go. I didn't have a great recollection of the past hour, but all I needed to know is that Sam was okay with it, and that he was safe. He said that I could go to his house for dinner to meet his mom, and I slowly got out of bed. "Do you think I'll need to get changed when I get there?" He asked, inspecting his clothes.
"What if you never get there?" I walked up to him and slid my hands up the back of his shirt slightly, resting my chin on his shoulder. "Colby," I felt his hands on my chest push me away a bit, "I don't really know what happened this evening, but I don't want to get your hopes up. I don't think I'd be able to hold a relationship like... this for as long as you'd want. I'm sorry." His hands fell to his side, and he stared into my eyes, but I didn't see that for long, as my gaze went to the floor.
I was a bit hurt, but I understood. For the most part, I was confused though, about myself.
My thoughts and gaze were obstructed by his hand, moving closer to mine. "Colby... do you remember the notebook that you found?"
"Yeah?""My psychiatrist said that I needed to write in it every day to help stop my anxiety," I looked back into his eyes at this information, surprised, "but you know what she also said?" I raised my eyebrows as to signal to keep talking, "She said that it's gotten alot better, since I've met you. Colby, recently, I've been pondering things, basic things in my life that I've never really thought about before, but one thing that I haven't been doing, is worrying. You make me feel like there is nothing wrong in the world, and I adore every moment that I spend with you. I just, need some time to think, alright?"
I nodded. I felt like talking would ruin the moment, but I needed to tell him something still.
I waited a while, listening to my slow, deep breaths.
"My - My parents left when I was thirteen with my older brother. Raising two teenage boys was too hard on them clearly, so one night, they took me for a drive, dropped me off at my nan's house, and then we never spoke again."
"Colby, I..." His hand gripped nine tightly, "do you miss them?"
"Sometimes, but then I'm reminded of how my nan was close to retirement, but had to get another job when she took me in so that she could pay for everything.
"I'm so sorry."
"Don't be, it's not your fault," I squeezed his hand, "it just means that we both have our sad backstories."
"But you're still coming to dinner tonight with my mom, no matter how sad your story is," I think he noticed the sorry look I had on my face as I looked back to my shoes.
"No, I wouldn't-"
"No more kissing if you don't come."
"Fine."

We walked into his home, and, as suspected, we heard a female voice shout across the rooms. "Sam, is that you, hon? Come into the kitchen!" He responded as he strolled into the kitchen first, hugging and kissing his mom on the cheek. I noticed that she looked the spitting image of him, or, the other way around.
"And who's this strapping young gentleman?" I walked in after Sam, only to be greeted by the same practice that he got. As soon as I was freed from her grasps, I saw Ben in the kitchen, making something, so I waddled over to him.
"Oh, hey Colby!" He flung the dish cloth he was holding over his shoulder like the old diner owners do in TV shows and smiled at me, but the smile quickly faded into a suspicious look, "You've been kissing Sam, haven't you?"
He spoke once more before I could answer the first question with answering the question himself, "Of course you have! Would I of expected anything less? Look, I might be younger than him, but if you hurt my brother in anyway, you are toast. Got it!" His face frowned, apart from the last two words, because that's when he started to smile again.
Sam's life was chaotic, messy and strange, and I loved being in it.
