"For the last time, I will be okay I promise

"For the last time, I will be okay I promise." Holding back a smile I tried to seem serious but it was hard to in this situation. There he was, Gyomei, standing in front of the door with his arms spread to stop me from moving forward. He held the most serious expression as he confidently stood there, the kids who walked in only joining his side. Even though they had no idea why they were doing it, simply wanting to follow his lead.

"You could get hurt."

"I'll be super careful and bring supplies just in case." I tried to reason with him, I knew he was worried but there was more important things to worry about.

It had been a couple months now since we had met. At some point Gyomei was able to convince me to stay with him and the kids, they seemed more than excited to have me there. As soon as I walked through the door for the first time Sayo had jumped on me. This caused us to fall over but it ended in a good laugh. Although, most nights I slept outside finding it easier, I felt comfortable after the second month to sometimes rest inside. I helped where I could, sewing clothes after gyomei tried showing me how. He was not a good teacher but his patience and effort alone made up for it. I only drew blood from poking myself with the need a few times before I got the hang of it. Even with that I helped with more, chopping wood for them, carrying things when Gyomei was busy. He didn't like it so much since he was such a worry wart. But he always made sure to say 'thank you' after each worried rant. I told him a million times he didn't need to say thank you as you gave me a home full of kindness but he was too determined to stop. I had to give him a limit to how many times he could say it though, I started feeling guilt with how often he thanked me. His limit was always hit each day, that being of five 'thank you's' and even then he tried to go over that. I was lucky to have this kindness around me now.

"Y/n, listen-"

"Gyomei, Kaigaku is sick, I can run to town and get the medicine, be back by morning. He hasn't eaten all day and I'm worried. I know you are too, it's best I go and get it anyways, you should look after the kids." I made sure my voice was full of understanding and as soft as I could make it. I didn't want to hurt him by not picking the right words to say. I noticed his arms moving down as he sighed, the kids doing the same as they followed his lead.

"Okay, okay, you're right.. Just please be safe. Don't be the hero if you can help it, we need you here. You're one of us now" He paused for a seconded on the 'You're one of us now', it seemed he wanted to add more but he stopped himself. I simply smiled at him as I gave him a quick pat on the head to try calming his nerves. He took my hand before I could completely move it away, holding it close to his chest as he did so, his eyebrows crunched together with worry.
