3rd P.O.V
Mutasim couldn't believe it! His grandfather, Tai, didn't recognise him! The house looked the same as it did before, but even the aura of it seemed so different to what he knew. The older man frowned.
Tai: Hey, are you okay kid? You seem a bit... Out of it, I guess.
Mutasim: B-But... Y-You're my grand-dad! H-How do you not know me?!
Tai: Heh, sorry kid, but I'm not that old. I've got two daughters though, one's about your age and the other is younger. Huh... Now that I'm getting a closer look at you, you have silver eyes. Just like Ruby.
Mutasim: But, Ruby's my mom!
Tai's frown grew.
Tai: I-I'm sorry, come again? Did you just say Ruby was your mom?
The boy nodded.
Mutasim: Ruby Rose, she's your youngest daughter. She's my mom! I even have her Semblance!
Tai: You... do?
Nodding, the boy demonstrated it, using it to transform into a ball of red and white roses, dashing across the room. Tai's eyes were wide open, amazed at the control he had and his speed. Despite being so young, he had such good control of it! Mutasim stopped in front of the TV, reverting back to his normal self.
Tai: W-Wow! That... That was just like Ruby's! Except she has only red roses. That's incredible!
Mutasim: I told you. I have her silver eyes, her red and black hair and her Semblance. Isn't that enough to show that I'm her son?
Tai: But, hold on... That doesn't make sense. R-Ruby's just a kid! Younger than you! How is she meant to be your mom?! That's just not possible!
Mutasim: I don't know! I just... The last thing I remember is...
The boy looked down, remembering what events led him to this point. His second mother tried to capture him and even threatened to harm him with her weapon. His body shook slightly from the sheer terror of Weiss. Tai noticed this and crouched down in front of the boy, holding him by the shoulders gently.
Tai: Hey, listen. We should try and keep this between us. For the time being at least. I'm not so sure how Ruby and Yang would think about this. I can talk to some people, ask them about what to do with you. Don't worry, they're nice people.
Mutasim: You mean... Like Qrow?
Tai: Heh. You know Qrow too? Look, this might be crazy to think, but... Is it possible you might've... I dunno... Travelled back in time? I mean, its just weird to hear you say that I'm your grand-dad and my daughter's your mom when she's just a kid. Look, let's just come up with a cover for now.
Mutasim: Like what?
Tai: Uhh... How about... Let's say that you got amnesia and you don't remember anything else except for your name. Which reminds me... I don't think I got it.
Mutasim: Mutasim.
Tai: Mutasim... Summer wanted to call Ruby that if she was a boy. I guess Ruby named you?
The boy nodded, making Tai smile and ruffle his hair.
Tai: Heh. Yeah. I definitely see a lot of Ruby and Summer in you. If you're anything like them, I get a feeling we're gonna get along well. As weird as it seems, just call me dad for now. I'll "adopt" you while we figure out what to do with you. Sound good?
Mutasim nodded.
Mutasim: Yeah. It'll be like I never left home!
He remarked, excited. Tai smiled softly. If Mutasim really was somehow from the future, it was nice to know that Ruby was able to settle down.
Tai: Yeah. As curious as I am to learn more about the future, I feel we should break the whole adoption thing to Ruby and Yang.
Mutasim: I'll try not to slip up and accidentally call them "Mom" and "Aunt Yang".
Tai: Heh, yeah. I guess it'll be a little difficult. Say, how old are you?
Mutasim: 11.
Tai: Oh! So you're Yang's age. Do... You have aspirations to be a Huntsman?
Mutasim: Um... Not really... Not when they're barely needed anymore. But at the same time, it would be cool to fight like a hero!
Tai frowned once more, confused.
Tai: Uh... What?
Mutasim: Oh! Right! I almost forgot! The Grimm are everywhere in this world, aren't they?
Tai: Yeah, wait. Are you saying by the time you're born, Grimm are gone? Completely?
Mutasim: Not completely, but I know that Salem's gone.
Tai's eyes widened, stunned by the news. From what he knew, Salem couldn't be stopped. Only held back. But here he was, face-to-face with his future grandson who knew about the Grimm Queen and her fate!
Tai: S-Seriously?! Okay, listen. You CAN'T tell anyone about Salem. Okay? No one can know. Ozpin had made that clear to everyone who knows. Do you understand?
The young boy nodded. Tai patted his back, sighing.
Tai: Alright then. Let's go introduce you to your new "siblings". Or rather, re-introduce you. Oh boy... This is gonna be a big headache for you.
Mutasim: My head already hurts just thinking about all of this.
Tai chuckled slightly and led Mutasim up the stairs to Ruby and Yang's rooms. As they walked, Mutasim couldn't help but think about how this would turn out. And he found himself thinking about his real family, the ones in the future. Would they be able to find him? What if they think he died? What if he has to live in the past for the rest of his life?!
His head throbbed with agony as he thought about all the issues that came with this. They arrived at Ruby and Yang's rooms. Tai knocked on the doors and introduced them to Mutasim who "lost his memory and will now be apart of the Rose-Xiao Long family". Not that he wasn't apart of it before. But now he's meant to be a sibling to two of his role models!
From that point on, Mutasim grew up to be a young adult alongside Ruby and Yang, while also training to be a Huntsman. Years passed by and Mutasim became so much like a big brother to Ruby and even Yang at times.
However, back in the future, they had all learnt nothing about the whereabouts of Mutasim, leaving Ruby in a depression and only strengthening everyone's determination to find him.
Little did they know, they'd get lucky and finally reunite with him. Just not in the way they originally thought.
