Mutasim P.O.V
After having to sit through a long speech, having an almost restless night and an abrupt awakening, I was finally able to get to my locker and suit up. Helping me lift my energy a bit, I drank an energy drink in one go.
As I got ready, I heard Ruby and Yang talking to my right.
Yang: So! You seem awfully chipper this morning.
Ruby: Yep! No more small talk or 'getting to know you' stuff. Today, I get to let my sweetheart do the talking.
She explained while hugging and stroking her scythe. Yeahhhhhh, if I ever found my mom, I'd need to talk to her about her... "obsession". Sure, she grew out of it when she became my mom, but this just feels weird.
Yang: Well, remember Ruby, you're not the only one going through initiation. If you want to grow up, you're going to have to meet new people and learn to work together.
Ruby: Ugh, you sound like dad!
Mutasim: That doesn't necessarily mean she's wrong. Keep in mind, dad did come to Beacon just like us. So he knows what to expect from here.
Yang: Exactly!
Ruby: Okay, first of all, what does meeting people have to do with fighting? And secondly, I don't need people to help me grow up. I drink milk.
Mutasim: Firstly, you can't face every fight one-on-one. Because it won't always be like that. Grimm act in hordes and if you're alone, there's a good chance they can overwhelm you. Which is why you need to establish connections with other people so you know who you can rely on and who you can't. Secondly, you do realise milk only helps you grow in the early childhood years and after that it only helps with bone density, right?
Yang: What Mutasim said. I couldn't have put it any better than that. Especially when we form teams.
Ruby: Well... I... I'll just be on your team.
Mutasim: It doesn't work like that Ruby. Basically, the first person we make eye contact with when we drop in, that's our partner for the next... What was it? Four years? And after that, we'll need to collect chess pieces in some old ruins that will determine the full team.
Yang frowned and crossed her arms.
Yang: And... How do you know that?
Mutasim: Oh! W-Well, its what dad said once, when I asked him about his first days at Beacon.
Yang: Oh, that makes sense.
I nodded, relieved that I didn't break my cover. I mean, I kind of wanted to, but I had no idea how Yang and Ruby would react. Especially since now they both see me as their older brother. Oh boy... This was going to be a mess.
Suddenly, a voice rang out on the intercom.
Intercom: Would all first-year students please report to Beacon Cliff for initiation? Again, all first-year students report to Beacon Cliff immediately.
Mutasim: I guess that's our cue. Let's go.
Ruby: Yes!
I let out a little chuckle as we made our way out of the building and headed for Beacon cliff.
When we got there, we were all stood on pads which I had a sneaking suspicion about. But I kept it to myself. In front of us stood Glynda Goodwitch and Ozpin himself. I never really met the guy, but he seemed to be quite young for a Headmaster. He wielded a cane and wore a formal suit.
Ozpin: For years, you have trained to become warriors. And today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest.
Glynda: Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumours about the assignment of teams. Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates... Today.
