Mutasim's Whereabouts

3rd P.O.V

After learning Neo had found "someone" who had some form of knowledge about where Mutasim might be, the entire group/family made their way to Patch to meet up. Ruby had been pacing back and forth in the living room with bags under her dull silver eyes. Yang, Blake, Tai and Qrow tried to sit her down, but she refused. This was the first sign of news about Mutasim in years. 

It wasn't just the few people here either. Jaune, Ren, Nora, Raven and Emerald (who was once a former enemy of theirs) gathered in the house. 

Emerald: Ruby, please. This isn't helping anyone. 

Ren: She's worried. And for all the right reasons. She'll wear herself out. Maybe. 

Silencing the entire house, was a knock on the front door. The knocking had even halted Ruby from her pacing, making her face the door with wide eyes. Tai approached it and opened it, revealing Neo and another guest. One that shocked everyone and immediately put them on guard. 

Jaune: Cinder?! She's here too?! 

Cinder: Hello everyone. Its certainly been awhile. 

Raven: What is SHE doing here?! 

She exclaimed with a hand resting on her katana's handle, ready to strike Cinder down. 

Cinder: Neo explained everything to me. How Mutasim-

Yang: Don't you dare say my nephew's name! 

Cinder: As you wish. How Ruby's son vanished, and what led to it. This isn't the first time someone's disappeared in a burst of light. Throughout history, there have been tales of people from the future somehow finding themselves in the past who then made revolutionary discoveries that formed our world to this day. If the boy really did get engulfed in such a light, then it means he's nowhere in THIS Remnant, but rather in a time that's already passed. 

Qrow: Time travel? Seriously? I'll take a Bad Luck Semblance, I believe magic is real, Gods existing, but time travel?

Cinder: Neo called for my help. And since this is the closest information you have to finding out where or when he is, you can't deny that my word holds some form of proof. 

Blake: Why would you even help us?! You've tried to kill us MULTIPLE TIMES!

Emerald: Uh... 

Nora: You're not quite the same, Emerald. 

Ren: You did manage to pull yourself together back in Atlas. 

The green haired girl nodded slowly. 

Cinder: At first, I didn't have much reason to help. But when I heard about what the Schnee was doing to him behind closed doors... I knew that he shouldn't be left alone. I know all too well what pain and loneliness does to someone. I'd rather not have another "me" running around. 

Jaune: Another you? What does that mean? 

Cinder: He's not the only one who suffered betrayal from people who were meant to care and protect you. But I'd rather not discuss my own self. This is about Ruby's son, remember? 

Everyone nodded in agreement. 

Tai: So... Let's say we believe you. What then? How do we get to Mutasim? 

Cinder: That's the part I can't help with. I don't know if any previous "time traveller" was able to return to their own timelines. Only that they were forever remembered for their contributions to advancements in technology. 

Ruby: Is it possible to see him again? At least tell me that! 

Cinder: Possibly. Where did your son vanish? 

Yang: At the bottom of the cliff of Summer's grave. He fell right into it. 

Cinder: We should head there then. I have an idea on how to get to it. 

Ruby: Then what are we waiting for?! Let's go! 

She picked up her scythe and sprinted out of the house, leaving everyone else behind. Everyone followed Ruby's lead, leaving the house. However, before leaving, Raven approached Cinder, glaring daggers into her soul. 

Raven: If I find out this is a trap, I'll finish what you started years ago. 

Cinder: Raven. Our goals are truly aligned here. Salem is gone and I am free to decide what I do and the reasons why I do it. The boy can't turn out like me. Would you have him turn out like you? 

The older woman kept her stern glare before shutting her eyes and took a deep breath. 

Raven: Mutasim is free to choose for himself who he becomes. 

Cinder: Maybe. But sometimes that choice isn't always the person's to make. Like you. The only reason you're the Branwen tribe leader is because you're the twin that stepped up, unlike Qrow who dedicated the rest of his life to the benefit of the Huntsmen and Ozpin. Now do you see my view? Under certain circumstances, he might turn out to be like you, or me. Or maybe something worse. I... I won't let that happen. 

She spoke with genuine sincerity and actually felt some form of sympathy for the boy. It surprised Raven, but she didn't let it show. Instead, she sighed and left the house. 

Raven: Let's just get out of here. Its been years. I'm not waiting a second longer. 

Cinder nodded in agreement and left the house alongside Raven, making their way to Summer's grave.

Upon arriving, everyone turned to Cinder who walked to the edge of the cliff, looking down. 

Blake: So what now? 

Cinder: Yang. I need you to tell me exactly what happened before the boy vanished. 

Yang: I... I only got there when Mutasim was already at the base. Weiss stood at the top, but some black beast tried to attack her. It vanished and I just remember attacking Weiss until she said Mutasim fell. When I came to see, I saw he was already being sucked down. 

The one eyed woman nodded slowly, still looking down at the base of the cliff. After a moment of thought, she took a deep breath.

Cinder: I really hope I'm right about this... 

Qrow: Right about what? 

Without warning, Cinder jumped off the cliff, shocking everyone. 

Ruby: Cinder?! 

The group ran to the edge of the cliff, seeing Cinder plummet to the ground. However, upon impact, a strange light swallowed her before vanishing! It shocked everyone and they all realised how there was no trace of Cinder left. 

Raven: What the hell? 

Yang: What is this? The Backrooms?! 

Tai: I'm just more annoyed that it was that easy. I guess we should-Ruby?! 

Ruby dashed past her father and dove down to the ground with her Semblance. 

Qrow: Ruby! 

Just like Cinder, Ruby vanished into a burst of light. 

Tai: To be fair, if it was either Ruby or you Yang, I'd probably do the same. Now cmon, we've got a kid to save. 

Everyone smiled in agreement. After years of no news or anything, they were finally able to see Mutasim! Or at least get closer to him. Without a second thought, they all jumped down into the portal, being enveloped in the light and transporting themselves into the past. 

After all this time, they'd finally reunite.
