It’s Prom. That one event every girl dreams of from the moment they enter high school. Not only are you lucky enough to be going, but you’re going with your best friend, Daehyun. He didn’t ask you in the overly obnoxiously cute way, but in a way that suited your friendship perfectly.
It was the beginning of March and you both were seated on your old worn out couch in your basement. This was like a ritual, every Friday night he came over to watch a different movie. Sometimes they were Disney, sometimes they were horror films. But no matter what they were or how many times this happened, it was definitely one of your favorite things in the whole world.
So, on this Friday on March when Daehyun showed up with the movie ‘Prom’ you only rolled your eyes, not giving it a second thought. This wasn’t the first time he had shown up with a questionable movie in hand.
“Really?” you say, shutting the door behind him. Daehyun: “Yeah, I heard it was good.” You: “Your movie taste is really bad.” This is why you don’t let him pick out films, they’re usually really terrible. Daehyun: “No, it isn't!” he says loudly, already heading downstairs and making himself at home. “Whatever,” you reply, sitting down and watching Daehyun set up the movie.
He sits next you, pulling you close, but not close enough to where it pushes the limits of friendship. But you can’t help your heartbeat race when this happens. You watch him out of the corner of your eye, hoping he’s too concentrated on this terrible movie to notice.
His eyes are focused on the screen, his lips slightly pouted as he concentrates. There is an undeniable urge to lean up and kiss him, but you manage to stop yourself, knowing that the feelings aren’t reciprocated. The movie ends quicker than you thought it would, and to keep yourself from wanting to jump on Daehyun, you hop up, turning the lights on.
Daehyun: “Come on, (YN), admit it. That movie wasn’t so bad, was it?” You laugh, scrunching up your nose. You: “It was! I almost fell asleep, like, ten times.”
“Liar,” he says, “you watched me the whole time.” Your face flushes red and you regret turning on the lights.
Daehyun: "I don’t mind though. I’d look at me all the time too, if I could," he teases, winking. “Whatever,” you reply, looking down. You: “Gonna stay for another movie?” Daehyun: “I wish I could, but it’s getting late and I have something early tomorrow that I have to go to.” Your stomach sinks and you think he isn’t staying because he caught you staring.
You: “Okay, I’ll walk you out.” He flashes that beautiful eye smile at you *-* Daehyun: “Sure.” You lead the way upstairs, through your living room, to the foyer. The door opens with a slight squeak. He steps past you, standing on your front porch. You notice his hair has gotten longer, and it needs a trim, but then again, he’s the only boy in the world that could pull of those tresses and still look like he does.
Daehyun: “I’ve been meaning to ask you something for a while now.” “Yeah?” you reply, still embarrassed at being caught staring earlier. Daehyun: “Well, prom’s coming up so we should go together, right?” You blink, not quite sure if you heard him correctly. You: “What?” Daehyun: “Prom? You? Me? Together?” You: “You’re asking ME to prom?” Daehyun: “Yes,” he laughs. “Who else would I ask?” You: “Well, I don’t know, but the answer is yes.” His smile is enough to light up the world, his tiny dimples on full display. “Good,” he says, reaching for a hug. It’s probably the best feeling you’ve ever felt.
The next few weeks pass weekly. You find the perfect dress, he finds the perfect tux that you help pick out. When it’s finally the day of prom, he picks you up in a nice car and you meet up with your friends at the restaurant. It’s a really nice evening and you feel like something about your friendship with Daehyun has changed, but you can’t quite put your finger on it. He finds excuses to touch you, his fingers lightly brushing yours when you hand him something, when he bumps into you, he takes your arm. “I’m sorry!” he says, a cute boyish smirk upon his face.
When it’s the last slow dance of the night, you and Daehyun find a spot on the floor. His hands find your waist, and you lock your fingers around his neck. This dance feels strangely intimate and it makes your stomach fill with butterflies. “You look really beautiful tonight, (Y/N)-ah" Daehyun says quietly in your ear. You flinch from its unexpectedness, but a smile finds its way to your features. “Thanks, Daehyunie. You look pretty good yourself.” You don’t look at him, only rest your head upon his shoulder and sigh. It’s a good night.
After prom, you go back to Daehyun's house since you’re not really a partier and his parents are out. You enter his bathroom with every intention of putting on pyjamas, but the zipper on your dress gets stuck. No matter how hard you pull, it won’t budge.
“Daehyun?” you ask, poking your head around the door.
“Yeah?” he replies, turning to look at you. He’s standing in his PJ's, but it doesn’t faze you. He’s beautiful, you’ve always know that. His chest is slightly toned, and it’s true, his torso is almost never ending. “My zipper is stuck. Can you help me?” you bite your bottom lip, feeling a bit shy. “Of course, (Y/N).” He makes his way to you and motions for you to turn around. He holds the fabric tightly and tugs, the zipper instantly loosening. Before you can step back into the bathroom though, you feel his arm wrap around your waist, pulling you in for a back hug, his head snugly fitting in the crook of your neck, before turning it down to softly kiss your shoulder.
You freeze.
“Mianhae~” Daehyun whispers. “I shouldn’t have done that.” Turning around to face him, you stretch on your tiptoes, softly pressing your lips to his. He seems shocked at first, but responds eagerly. You want to wrap your fingers in his hair, but your hands are busy holding up your dress. You two finally pull away, after what feels like hours.
“Why didn’t we do this sooner?” Daehyun asks, grinning, his lips still lightly against yours. “Don’t know,” you reply. He pulls you closer, his hand on your lower back tugging you towards him, Daehyun: “Can I tell you something...?” You: “Yeah, of course." “Uhm.. How do I.. Uhm.. Saranghae~" he flushes pink, an adorable look for him. You smile. You: “Saranghae~"
He smiles widely against your lips, then pushes his lips on yours harder&deeper;, sparks flying. You never knew such a friendship would change to this~ c:
