Mid Tuesday

Wind blows past my ears, howling from how fast I'm flying. The farther across the mountain ranges I get, the colder the air becomes. I've been traveling for a little over six days and the air only ever seems to get thicker in both color and clouds. The fact that this journey is taking so long even on my cloud is absurd. My power is running out and I'm growing tired. I hate to say it, but I'm getting a little rusty.

It's clear the last thousand years have done nothing for me physically. Having a protege hasn't done much for me in that regard either. Most of the time when demons threaten to take hold on the city, Mk handles it. That was the whole point of getting a protege in the first place, but now? Now it feels like he's just been handy for old nemesis's of mine to take out their hatred for me on him. I should've listened to (Y/N) the day we were reunited on Flower Fruit Mountain.

Mentally, the last few decades, is another story. I lost the brotherhood, my dignity, the love of my life, my best friend, and the companions I journeyed with. Perhaps some could say I lost myself after that. I disappeared after burying the Demon Bull King under a mountain– that was my breaking point. Now everyone was truly gone. As an immortal being, I knew it was bound to happen eventually, but I didn't think it would happen so fast. I'd blink and find myself coordinating another funeral with humans and demons alike. The consequences of my peachy actions had caught up to me.

Flower Fruit Mountain no longer felt like a home after finally burying (Y/N) and Macaque. I hated just being there, it made me feel physically ill. The worst part of it all is that my past keeps coming back to haunt me. For thousands of years, I spent my time fooling around and making enemies. Those years aren't reflecting back on me, but are being projected towards my kid. My protege is paying for every past mistake I've made and I can't do anything but watch and hope he learns from the mistakes that I made.

I grit my teeth and fly faster, creating a sonic boom behind me. Mountains shudder in my wake as temperatures drop quickly below zero. I'm close to the Lady Bone Demon's original burial, I can feel it. This is the one past mistake I thought I had for sure taken care of. Unfortunately, it's come back to haunt me just like the rest of my young and naive past mistakes have. She's single handedly the worst to come back, and it's all my fault for being cocky and burying her essence better.

Dim blue light emanates from beyond the clouds. I squint my eyes before everything begins to have a golden hue to it. It's refreshing to see something other than shades of blue and gray, but at the same time, it's so bright. My eyes wander the area before landing on a familiar big skull. I clench my fists and continue to fly faster than the speed of sound. Four days of traveling land me in a place I already despise not only from the travel, but the memories that stem from within it.

A frown crawls onto my lips as shivers run down my spine as I bring my cloud to a halt before the giant skull. Little warmth can be found even after stepping off the cloud. Even through my heavy boots, cold air nips at the tips of my fur. The blue flames that surround the upper skull do nothing to provide any heat. All they seem to do is provide a more ominous air to the area; in which, is certainly not welcome.

Gentle winds blow across the top of the mountain, most of the more hasher winds are blocked by the formation of stone spikes surrounding the skull. Lanterns hung by loose ropes blow in the wind, the blue flames within them turning to light flickers. Bones rattle beneath the lanterns, as if to act like some messed up wind chime. I involuntarily swallow while walking towards the giant skull. Purple flames flicker inside its eyes, seemingly swaying with the wind in just the right way to eye me down as I enter through the skull's mouth.
