The meeting yesterday, to say the least, was boring. They acknowledged me at first, then they continued to talk only with Rhys. Not like I made an attempt to speak anyway.
I grab my keys and lock my door dressed in casual clothes; jeans, a tee, and sneakers with a jacket over it. I take off down the steps to hurry and catch the L. I'm at the station within fifteen and I find a seat by a woman. I fidget, nerves hitting me like a truck.
I haven't seen him in months. I hope he's doing better than what the doctors informed me. At first, they told me he was fine and healthy, and then he went downhill. His health drastically dropped, and I knew I needed to see him as quick as I can. I would've thursday, but I had already planned for Saturday, plus the girls took me shopping.
Luckily, they only went through my closet and not my dresser. My dresser is where I hide all my comfy clothes. Much like the ones I'm wearing.
I feel a pair of eyes on me and look around, a man looking away as soon as my eyes land on him. I roll my eyes and turn away. Perv.
It doesn't take long to get to my destination.
I check in with the doctors and they allow me to take the elevator up to his room, giving me a visitors pass. I only have a few hours, since visiting hours end at ten.
I quietly push open his door, poking my head inside. Inside, on a bed, my dad sits. He's awake, but he looks exhausted.
I walk toward his bed. "Hi, Dad."
He turns to me and gives me the same toothy grin he always did growing up. "My ladybug." I smile at the childhood nickname. "What brings you by? Missin' your old man?"
I laugh softly, pulling a chair up beside him. "Yeah. I haven't seen you in a while."
"Why is that? You're not avoiding me, are you?" He jokes.
My smile widens. "I would never avoid you." I roll my eyes, making him chuckle. "I've got a full-time job now."
"Really? Where?"
"Tech company. It has pretty good pay." But not enough.
"And what about your friend? Oh, what was her name?" He scratches his head, trying to remember.
"Her name is Maya, Dad."
He snaps his fingers. "Maya! Yeah, her. What about her? Is she doing well?"
"Yes. She was living at the house to keep an eye on me, but she went back home."
"I heard about the shooting. It was all over the news. Are you alright?" His brows crease in concern.
I nod, smiling. "I'm fine. My boss is very douchy, but he's a good man with a good heart."
"You don't have a crush on him, do you? I'm not exactly in good shape to be giving him the Dad-Talk." He chuckles.
"Jesus, Dad. No!" He laughs at me.
