I step out after my session, feeling a little better. Immediately, Rhys is up on his feet, walking to me. "You stayed."
"Of course, I did. I told you I would." He replies. "So, how'd it go?"
"It was okay. I'm not used to it."
"It's okay. You only have to do a few sessions and then you can stop." I smile slightly at him.
A woman comes up next to him. "Hi, I'm Elena." She holds a hand out to me, and I hesitantly shake it, confused. "I was sitting with Rhys while he waited."
I nod slowly. Why was she sitting with Rhys?
"Relax. She was just helping me make a decision."
"About what?"
"The...fundraiser..."
I narrow my eyes. Why'd he sound so hesitant? "I could've helped you with that."
"It's okay, Naomi." My head snaps to the girl— Elena. "I'm not trying to steal him from you." She smiles at me, as if it's funny. Then she holds her hand up, showing a gorgeous diamond ring. "I've got my own."
"That's...gorgeous. He got that for you?"
"Yep. It's so pretty, isn't it?"
"Yeah." I whisper.
"Would you want something like it?" I'm a little taken aback by the question, but I shake my head.
I smile at her. "I don't need an expensive ring to know someone loves me."
"Hey, I was thinking of taking Azzy to King's Island to see the lights. Want to go with me?" Rhys cuts into the conversation.
"Yeah, sure." I nod. I turn to Elena. "It was nice meeting you, Elena."
"You, too." She smiles at me.
"Come on." Rhys guides us to the door, both of us putting on our coats before we walk out into the cold. We hurry to the car, where we climb in and he immediately turns on the heat once the car is on.
On the road, we drive in silence, until Rhys breaks it, "Do you plan on getting married someday?"
I narrow my eyes. "Someday. Why?"
"Just curious. We never have any of these conversations." He shrugs.
"Hmm. I guess you're right." I turn back to my phone. "I wouldn't say yes to a stranger, but I probably would if it was you." I snap a hand over my mouth. "I didn't mean to say that."
He chuckles. "It's okay. We're not going to get married anytime soon, if at all."
Does that mean...he doesn't want to get married? To me? No. I'm just reading too far into it. Besides, our relationship is still new. But he's seen me at my lowest. He's even gotten me help. But what have I done?
