-Selene's POV-
I was freaking out, I paced my office in between counselling sessions as my mind raced with all the places I could take Juno. But I had said casual and I was going to keep it casual. The diner on the way in between here and my house was always a good bet. A family owned restaurant, I went there frequently and the owners knew me by name. My dads had started taking us there when me and Helios were small. We didn't go all together that much but with Jackals' nineteenth birthday coming up in the next few months I assumed we'd probably go for a family outing. A thrill raced up my spine as I realised I'd be able to bring my new mate to this get together. My wolf growling in my mind as the last bell of the day rang snapped me out of my thoughts.
I was a nervous mess as I gathered my things before heading to the front of the school. There I waited for Juno, each second felt like an eternity until I finally saw her again. She was even more beautiful than the first time I had laid eyes on her. My wolf whined happily in my mind as her dark curls bounced as she walked the pink in her hair standing out vividly.
"Selene" Juno called, as she stood in front of me.
"Juno" I breathed in, her scent intoxicating this close.
"Shall we go, I'm sure it'll be tough to get a spot if we wait longer" Juno chuckled, reaching out and taking my hand.
My brain short circuited for all of three seconds, before I brought her hand to my lips and placed a kiss on the back of her hand.
"Of course my lady, allow me to escort you there" I offered, falling back on to my formal training.
Juno's scent flared in response as I started leading her towards the diner. We walked a few streets hand in hand before we finally made it outside of the diner. A soft gasp from Juno had me looking back at her.
"Sorry, sorry, it's just this is my favourite diner" She rushed to explain her scent flaring again but this time in embarrassment. Her dark skin making it near impossible to tell when she blushed so I was using the changes in her scent for context clues.
"Really! mine too, I know the owner, I rang ahead and he said he'd have the best table reserved for us" I said excitedly as I pushed open the door, the warmth of the diner smacking me in the face as we came of the cold street.
"Selene, my favourite Von Touran, it's good to see you, and who is this" The owner Mac gushed as he welcomed us.
Mac was lean, with grey eyes, and silver hair, he was a pixie and he ran the joint with his mate Calvin who was a vampire.
"Hi Mac, this is Juno my mate" I stated proudly, my wolf practically puffing out her chest in my mind.
"Congratulations to you both on finding each other, now this way to your table" Mac clapped his hands together before ushering us away from the door as a few more customers started to come in.
We were led to a secluded booth, where Mac ushered us to sit. I let Juno pick which side she wanted before I sat opposite her. Smiling at her I was giddy with so many emotions.
"Can we start of with some water please Mac, and we'll be ready to order when you get back" Juno spoke, as she chuckled as my eyes began stinging.
"Thank you" I offered, towards Juno as Mac walked away.
"Of course" Juno grinned, looking at me with such adoring eyes that it was hard to look away.
I just smiled back and got the menu's handing one to Juno and looking over one myself. Peeking over my menu at my mate I found the adorable way her nose scrunched up while she was deep in thought trying to make a decision. When her hair fell over her eyes I itched to brush it behind her ear. I would have reached over if not for Mac coming back at that minute with our water.
"Well then what can I get you" Mac asked as he placed the water down and opened his flip pad.
"I'll have a cheesy chips, salad bowl for the table and a small steak please, medium well" Juno asked, straight in with what she wanted.
"And you Selene" Mac prompted.
"I'll get a steak too, medium rare and a side of mac n cheese, please" I asked smiling up at him as he scribbled on his note pad.
"You got it, it'll be out soon" Mac said as he walked away and shouted our order at the kitchen.
It was several more beats before either of us spoke, Juno was the one to break the silence.
"So Selene, what made you get into teaching" She asked, curiosity flickering in her gaze.
"My vampire gift actually, I can use my pheromones to influence people. I mainly use it for calming people who are stressed or having panic attacks. It has other uses too but those are for a different time" I said, my face flaming hot as I realised my Juno had probably figured out what other uses meant as her scent flared in interest.
"What about you Juno" I questioned, playing with my hands in front of me.
"I was the most qualified, and I had been specifically trained to be able to teach magic to other hybrids" she explained holding out her hand in which a small tornado started with sparkle dust swirling in the magic.
"Wow" I breathed, impressed beyond words as I stared at the magic. Her power and control were both excellent. When she closed her hand the magic disappeared.
"I'm well versed in all magics and their uses" Juno stated proudly, and I swear I heard a low growl. It seemed her wolf was as interested as my own.
We asked a few more basic questions of each other, favourite colour, favourite place, favourite season, all that good stuff. When our food finally came and was put in front of us my stomach chose to give the loudest gurgle ever. I could feel the heat on my ears as I blushed.
"It's okay Selene, my husbands cooking is just that good" Mac chuckled before he walked away again.
All the while Juno was giggling the corners of her eyes creased as she tried to contain her laughter. It made me smile that I was able to bring her some joy. Our date was only just starting and I hoped we'd got over the awkward dance of new mates but only time would tell.
