LUCIANO

My cell phone rang out on the bedside table and I turned to look at it. A part of me didn't want to get it, because I planned to spend the whole day with Janie in this apartment, considering tomorrow is Monday and she would be back to her curricular activities.

But hence, I have an empire beneath my superiority, perhaps it might be something very urgent.

So I peeled off the bed and reached for the phone.

My brows quirked the moment I saw the caller ID displayed Romano. Since he knew I was with Janie, he wouldn't disturb me except it was something that needed my attention.

So I slid it to the receiver's end and brought it to my ear. "Yes, Romano. What's the problem?"

"Good morning, Luciano. You know I won't disturb you if this isn't urgent right? There are two corpses here and you need to see them right now." He divulged while I clenched my fist.

"Fuck!" I cursed under my breath.

"Please Luciano, I'm expecting your presence here. This is beyond me and I don't understand how it happened." Romano added, despair laced in his voice.

"I'll join you shortly," I told him then hung up.

Once I hung up, I sent a text message to the hired bodyguard, Drax. The same person who led Janie from the hostel to the restaurant. Janie doesn't know I hired him, and I intended to keep it a secret so she would feel safe and get on with her activities without having to look over her shoulders every time in trepidation.

Expelling a sharp breath, I returned to Janie.

"What's wrong, Luce?" She asked but my lips curled into a small smile at the name she called me.

Luce?

I liked the sound of that.

"Where did you learn that from?"

"What? Luce?" She rolled some noodles around her cutlery and brought it to my lips and I ate it. "I just shortened your name. Luciano is a mouthful."

"Keep calling me that. I like it."

She giggled. "Oh really?" Then her face became rigid again as she queried. " What's wrong? I noticed you don't seem happy after receiving that phone call, did something happen?"

"Don't worry, Baby. It's nothing I can't handle." I assured her, taking the extra spoonful she fed me with.

But she persisted.

"Why are you doing this, Luciano?" She questioned.

Oh! We are back to Luciano now, alright. I thought to myself.

Janie pushed the tray away from her thighs and stared into my eyes. "What's the essence of a relationship, if we are going to be keeping secrets from each other?" Her voice trembled beneath. "I knew what I signed up for before getting into a relationship with you. Tell me, I can handle anything."

Damn! My heart flipped.

Her curious eyes mesmerized the shit out of me, but still, I had to keep my head afloat.

Janie could be described as too pure. Paraphrasing it properly- an angel. She seemed too innocent for this mafia life, so I planned to keep shielding her from it.

"Talk to me, Luciano. I want to know -"

Before she could complete her statement, I shut her up with a kiss. She melted in my arms and kissed me back. But she broke it seconds later, her lips now a bit swollen. "You won't shut me up with a kiss, Luciano. I want to know what's going on."
