*Luciano*
I stared at the evidence in my hand continuously, finding it hard to agree that my most vile enemy had nothing to do with Janie's situation. There have to be some loopholes. I killed Ramos Ashton's henchmen a few days back for attempting to kidnap Janie, and this must have been the way he decided to get back to me after all.
After moments of silence, I watched Romano pace around the room, probably thinking exactly what I was. It was very simple. We were trying to figure out what other rivals I could have. One who was as smart as to aim from a long distance, whose contentment was my death. Even though I had few other enemies, none seemed to match my description of ruthless killing. I had considered this rival a coward because he was scared to come out and face me. Pfft.
"If he wasn't the one, then who the fuck is?" Romano voiced his thoughts aloud, asking rhetorically.
"Another rival that we barely know about isn't good, but I will find him and make sure he pays for everything Janie has had to go through" Romano sounded a little angrier than I felt he should, he was worried and although I didn't show it, it had me a little bothered. I wasn't scared of death. I have never been, but something about losing Janie was scary as hell. I wasn't ready for that.
Scribbling through the pages of invisible writings and thoughts in my head, I tried harder to analyze the situation. At first, I went blank, but something popped up in my mind, even though I was unsure of it.
"I-" The knock on the door cut my statement before I could even make one. Immediately Romano and I quickly turned to look at each other, as he awaited my command of what to do with the company we now had.
Silence filled the room for very few seconds after we heard the knock on the door, and then I tilted my head and nodded for him to respond to whoever it was.
"Who is it?" Romano asked, walking towards the room door slowly. We weren't expecting anyone, and so an unfamiliar knock kept him on his toes just a bit, while I just stood there unbothered, thinking only about what my plan for my rival would be, as I paid attention to the door as well.
I noticed a woman with red hair, a nurse, walk into the room apologizing.
"I'm sorry for interrupting, but I was asked to give you this," she spoke as she handed over a brown envelope to Romano. What was up with brown envelopes today, Christ?
"Who is it from?" I asked her, scanning the envelope from my end.
"I have no idea, but he said I should give it to the occupant of this room," she replied.
"So you just received this from a total stranger and failed to ask questions?" I asked in wary and anger, caring less if I sounded rude.
"I'm sorry, but he was putting on a face cap and a nose mask, and when I asked why he couldn't deliver it, he said it wasn't part of his job," she replied, a little frightened by my earlier tone.
"Thank you," I said, clearing my throat as she walked out of the room with Romano shutting the door after her and then walking to where I stood while I eyed the envelope, wondering what its content could be.
"Go outside right now and check if anyone matches the description this nurse has just given," I instructed him, before taking the envelope off his hands.
"You know what to do when you find him," I said again, as Romano nodded in affirmation and left the room moments after.
Tearing the envelope in curiosity to see what its content might be, seeing as it had to be brought to me under desperate and secret measures. It was a letter. Disappointed by the content, I almost didn't pay attention to the very first words I saw. Hey Luce.
"Hey Luce, how are you doing?" Reading the first line again, just to be sure, as I froze at that spot. There was only one person who called me by that name and he was dead or has been dead for the last three years. It was my cousin Sebastiano. He was the only one who called me Luce.
I shook myself off the thoughts and continued reading. Perhaps my new rival had done some digging and was aiming to use it against me. Nonetheless, I kept reading.
"-I have missed you if you didn't miss me, and I know you have some questions."
"Anyway, how is your little missy doing? Has she recovered yet? I hope she will because she wasn't the main target but you. I didn't want to do this, but then I decided to spice things up a little and get you on edge. See you in ruin." The letter ended with these words.
My heart sank just a bit as I crumbled his letter. I had thought Sebastiano was dead for years, but he had been hatching this plan for a while. A plan that got my dearest Janie in this unconscious state. I didn't care what relationship I had with him now, but I knew I was going to make him pay.
Romano rushed in through the door after I had just crumbled the sheet. He tried to inform me that he hadn't spotted anyone with such a description as what the nurse gave and he had made sure to search everywhere.
"I went as far as the hospital morgue, but I couldn't find anyone with the cap and mask description. It's like he just disappeared," he explained while I just stood silent.
"What's wrong? What happened?" He asked.
"I know who it is." I gulped an angry saliva as I gave him the crumbled paper to look through.
"What do you mean by that?" He asked a few minutes before his mouth fell open in shock. The shock on his face was confirmation enough for me that I wasn't mistaken. It was Sebastiano, a rival I had to take care of irrespective of family ties and blood.
"What in the name of-"
"Gather seven of our best for me right now. I'm about to pay someone a family debt," I cut into his words of astonishment before he could complete it.
If this mysterious person happens to be Sebastiano then I have myself to blame for not doing a proper job three years ago. But this time, I'd make sure to exterminate him properly from the surface of the earth without any remorse. And if it's not Sebastiano but someone else under the guise of him, that person better be ready.
I, Luciano would always triumph.
