★LUCIANO★
Without remorse, I turned to the second captive. “Now where were we?”“Please, I promise to do whatever you ask me to do. If you ask me to serve you for the rest of my life, I will. Please just spare me, sir.” His voice shook with fear.
I leaned towards him and asked; “And why should I believe you?”
He fidgeted back and forth. “Because I have never wanted to be part of Ramos Ashton's army. I am just a young boy trying to navigate my way and purpose in life. Alas, I went to him because I needed help with my mother's hospital bills. She had stage four cancer, but Ramos gave me a condition that I enlarge his coast by becoming a part of his henchmen so he could assist me. However, he didn't.”
What?
For the first time in history, I felt pity for someone. Perhaps, it was because he mentioned the word mother and I knew how much they meant to every individual, or maybe because I just lost mine. So I removed his blindfolds and hardened my jaw. “Why?”
His eyes flickered with fear the moment he saw me and he immediately averted them from my face. “I don't understand, Sir.”
“Why didn't Ramos Ashton save your mother after you agreed to join him?” I inquired.
The poor guy sniffled back sobs. “He didn't only backslide, he was the one that cut her life short. He sent some men to the hospital she got admitted to for chemotherapy and killed her. When I confronted him, he said it was to make things easier. That she had stage four cancer and was going to die anyway. Plus, he doesn't want my attention to be divided while I worked for him. Afterward, he sent the money meant for my mother's medical bills to my sister studying in Italy. So I had to live under him because of the favor even though I didn't want to.”
Although, I knew I wasn't perfect, what Ramos did was inhumane. True, I could kill anyone that disobeyed, disrespected, or betrayed me. But not their relatives. You'd have to bear the brunt of your actions solely and alone without anyone coming to your rescue.
Well, I wasn't surprised. Ramos Ashton actually did me dirty too. He was once my best friend while growing up in Italy. He frequented my house and knew my late sister. My parents never questioned him and they'd always welcomed him with open arms.
For years and years, I thought I had found a friend like a brother. But Ramos ripped me apart. That unfortunate day when the attack happened, those other mafia groups came. Killed my father in the most brutal way possible before setting our house ablaze. Sixteen-year-old me hid in between the pathway leading to my father's study and I witness everything that happened.
But what happened next froze me to bits. Before those men left, they asked someone if he was sure no one else was in the house and he retorted that my sister, our maids plus me should still be in the house, while my mom traveled.
The person knew too many details about us, so I had to peer over to see who it was. And it turned out to be— my best friend, Ramos Ashton. Who I had also been looking up to like an elder brother because he was older than I was by five years. And thanks to his response, they set the house ablaze which led to the death of my sister who was sleeping in her room, oblivious to what was happening, and some other domestic workers.
Those unpleasant memories would forever remain engraved in my head and buried in my heart.
Shoving them aside, I placed my attention on the second captive; “Are you telling me the truth?” I questioned, narrowing my eyes at his face so he could see that I meant business.
