"Today is Friday, and I took the day off to attend my uncle's wedding. Tonight, there will be significant changes. In just ten minutes, we'll arrive at the restaurant where the Nikkah ceremony will take place. Over the past four days, I've been contemplating how someone in love can go to great lengths to make one person happy, without realizing the pain they may be causing others in the process. I strongly dislike how my uncle is hurting Aunt Rubab to please Aunt Sameen, and I also despised it when my mother hurt me because of..."
"Hey, let's get going," Murtasim's voice interrupted my thoughts.
Upon reaching the restaurant, we all stepped out of the car. Aunt Rubab stayed home for obvious reasons, but both the boys joined me and my grandmother. Uncle was already at the venue with Aunt Sameen and her family. I don't know much about Aunt Sameen's family, but I do know she is divorced and has three children - an older son and two younger daughters. One of her daughters is even married and has a child.
As we entered, we were warmly greeted by my uncle and Aunt Sameen. They appeared joyful and were dressed elegantly. Aunt Sameen didn't seem like a mother of three; she looked quite young, which may explain why my uncle was attracted to her. I observed her as she greeted my grandmother, and then she met Murtasim and Mursalin. As she approached me, I took a step forward, but my foot slipped, and I was about to fall when a hand swiftly grabbed my waist and prevented me from falling.
I opened my eyes to the sound of my phone ringing, and I quickly grabbed it from the pocket of my sleek black tuxedo.
Abeer's name was glowing on the phone screen, so I answered the call.
Abeer: Bhai, are you on your way to the restaurant?
Shazim: Yeah, I'm in my car and should be there in about ten minutes. Are you already there?
Abeer: No, Anushay just picked me up. We're on our way too.
Shazim: Alright then, I'll see you soon. Bye.
Abeer: Okay, bye bhai.
I ended the call and gazed out of the car window, lost in thoughts about the event I was heading to—the nikkah (wedding) of my mother with the person who had caused so much misery in my life.
"Sir, we have arrived," the driver's voice broke my train of thought. I glanced at him through the rearview mirror and nodded. Stepping out of my Porsche, I entered the restaurant. As I was moving forward from a distance, I saw my mother greeting that despicable man's mother. As I approached my mother, I noticed her moving towards a girl who was just in front of me. In an instant, the girl slipped, and without thinking, I instinctively reached out, grabbing her waist to prevent her from falling. Little did I know that this simple act would have such an impact on my life. My heart skipped a beat as I looked into her enchanting brown eyes. She was breathtakingly beautiful, unlike anyone I had ever seen in my 31 years of life. Her innocent features held me captivated. Before I could fully process the moment, someone cleared their throat, snapping us both back to reality. I released my grip and made my way to greet my mother, who seemed happy. At least someone was. I ignored the rest of the people, but my mother pointed to me that I greet them. When I did not budge. She began introducing them to me.
"Shazim, this is Usman's mother. This is his elder son, Murtasim, and this is his younger son, Mursalin. Oh, and this is..." My mother did not get a chance to introduce that girl because she was interrupted by Abeer's voice before she could finish the introduction. Abeer greeted everyone, along with Anushay and her family. While everyone greeted each other I analysed the girl in front of me. She was elegantly dressed in a black and green dress. She looked divine. Her long waist length hair were open and were catching my attention. Her fair skin glowed. Even when she was in my arms, so close to me I could not see a single blemish on her face. Her face was flawless, without any imperfections. It was perfect, like a work of art.
After the greetings we all decided to move and take our seats at the table. Throughout the nikkah ceremony, my eyes remained fixed on her face. She didn't even glance at me once after our encounter neither did she speak to anyone. Eventually, we all left for our homes after dinner, but one face remained etched in my mind. Only if I had known that her beautiful face would come in the way of my plans.
Fuck I am screwed.
