chapter ten
———◈—◇—◈—◇———
Overall, this morning was turning out to be a disaster.
It began long before you set the fire alarm off. First of all, you woke up way too early for Saturday morning, unable to get back to sleep once your eyes opened. You figured it was just the insomnia of getting used to a new apartment - but you knew that wasn't the truth.
You knew your mind was racing at the memory of Taehyung last night.
The way he'd turned up at your door in that three-piece suit, the heather grey offsetting his amber eyes beautifully. The way he'd supported you through talking to your father and Jaewon. And the way he'd asked you to dance in the hallway, silent and sure, as if he'd not wanted to do anything else all night except dance with you.
He was a walking fever dream, you knew that. Last night, before falling asleep, you'd wondered if perhaps he was a figment of your imagination.
If last night had all been make-believe.
Thinking about last night made your heart sink into your stomach all of a sudden, a complete change from the high it had been riding, as you remembered the conversation with your father.
You felt nauseous thinking back on his words. About your ridiculous charade. About how he had better things to do than talk to you, his own daughter.
It had never struck you before that your father might not be a good person, not even when he had dismissed Yoongi and his passion for music. As far as that went, it didn't really concern you - your relationship with your brother was entirely separate to the one you had with your father. You'd never paused to think about the fact that your father had shunned Yoongi, simply for wanting to follow his own passions in life.
But now, you were pausing. Because you were realising that perhaps your relationship with your father had solely been based on you fulfilling his expectations your whole life.
And now, when you were no longer doing as he pleased...
He wasn't interested in you.
Tears pricked your eyes and you blinked them away fiercely, not wanting to entertain the prospect of it. The thought that your father loved you less when you weren't following his rules was heartbreaking.
