chapter fourteen

"You're lying," Rae was looming over you at your desk the next day, a face like thunder. "Tell me the truth."
"That is the truth," you insisted for the seventh time with a groan, gazing up at her from your chair. "I swear, Rae, nothing is going on."
Rae just narrowed her eyes at you. "I don't buy it. You've been acting weird all morning. Plus, Jungkookie told me you went to see the sexy pot man yesterday."
Your mouth threatened to break into a smile at the mention of Taehyung and what had happened between you. Somehow, you managed to keep your cool, biting your lip in refusal.
Rae's eyes got even narrower at your silence. "It's not nice to lie to someone on their birthday, you know."
"Technically, it's not your birthday," you pointed out. "It's just your birthday party today."
Rae's jaw clenched, and you knew you had her there.
But, as trustworthy as ever, along came Jungkook to back Rae up.
"But it is my birthday," he replied on Rae's behalf as he wandered over to join the pair of you, puffing out his chest where Rae had bought him an adorable turquoise 'it's my birthday!' badge. "So you have to tell me the truth, at least. And I nominate Rae to be with me when you do."
Rae shot him a thankful grin, and then turned to you with a victorious look on her face. "Spill it, bitch."
You sighed. It was no use. They had you outnumbered two to one.
"Fine," you mumbled, looking down at your nails so that they wouldn't see your cheeks turn red. "Imayhavegonetohisapartmentandkissedhimorsomething."
"A little louder, please," Rae tapped her foot, impatient.
"We made out!" you blurted a little too loudly, seeing several heads in the office turn your way. You tried to duck your head down to hide behind your computer monitor as you lowered your voice to a hiss. "Are you happy now?"
