I'm so excited for this chapter. Eric makes an appearance ;)

...

Zoey helped me find my way to the gymnasium.

"Don't be too nervous, but this has been the talk of today."

"What? What do you mean?"

She pursed her lips as if thinking of the best way to break the news to me seeing the frantic look on my face, "Well, everyone is going to be here. The only happens once every hundred years or so and we already had our assessment ten years ago. Everyone is kinda curious to see who's your guardian."

I let out a curse feeling my anxiety spike. "Well what could go wrong right?"

Zoey gave me a small smile in response.

When we arrived I gasped seeing rows of "targets" lined up behind their guard. There seemed to be at least 50 and at least twenty charges to each one.

"You mean to tell me I have to go through every guard to see if some type of reaction happens?" I asked.

"Sadly, yes but it should be a fast process. You just have to stand in front of each guard and if you match a reaction should happen quickly. It's hard to miss. Lilly will start you through the process. See there she is." Zoey exclaimed while pointing her head to the front of the assembly.

Lilly looked straight out of royalty, well correction, she is royalty and there was no mistaking the aura she exudes while she is standing. She was omniscient, standing out from the rest of the royals except I couldn't help but to notice that they were to the side and each one was by themselves besides their guardian with the rest of the charges behind them.

Zoey let out a gasp and I heard several whispers simultaneously. "It's Nyx, she's next to Damion. That means that she in second in line, and his new charge. Her last one died, and we were all wondering who her new charge would be since it would show her ranking. She technically overthrows Lilly. It mean that only the Chosen one overpowers her." Zoey answered before I could ask. "I guess they had a private ceremony since the top ten do whatever they want," she finished.

"Well I guess I'm not the only one in the spotlight today at least," I muttered to myself, and instantly found myself thankful for Nyx.

I shuddered feeling his presence and sure enough my eyes landed on his daunting ones. He didn't hide the fact that he was staring right back at me and it made me flushed. I caught them slightly looking down at my legs before making their way back to my eyes. It was so quick that someone else would've mistaken it for a flicker of the eye but I knew better, and if I knew anyone better than myself it would be him...or at least I thought so. I kept his gaze trying to read his emotions now, and it's as if he knew because he broke contact and focused his attention to the girl beside him. Samantha.

She placed a hand on his arm as she whispered something in his ear, and whatever it was had me fuming because he was giving her a smile. A dang smile that he gave me for lifetimes.

I found myself walking towards them. I refused to believe that my dreams were all hers. Sure, she looked angelic I'll give her that. Maybe angelic personified, but when I touched her there was something different. Something that no one else had noticed, and I don't know what this feeling in my chest is, but it was bad. I felt protective of my angel, and I couldn't stop myself from walking forward even if I wanted to.

Eric saw me first before Samantha's gaze followed, and her lips pursed into puzzlement before looking back at Eric. She squeezed his bicep as she noticed that he was troubled by me. He ignored her, and gently shook off her hand when he took notice that I was staring at where her hand was touching, and took a step forward.
