I gently ran my hands over the cover afraid that it would crumble underneath my hands. A title appeared as soon as my hands made contact, and I let out a short gasp of surprise.
"What just happened?" I looked back at Joshua seeing him studying me.
"I thought so."
"What?"
"The book is almost as if it's alive. It senses your past lives and displays them on the pages, but it only responds to anyone that has a past life dealing with the Chosen or the Chosen one themself."
Inspecting the book a second time, he spoke again, "What does the title say?"
"Conquerer of Good."
He was quiet again as if thinking to himself before giving me a nod. "Open it," His voice came out reserved, barely a whisper.
I hesitated feeling a slight aura of power coming from the book, but it wasn't a bad thing --if anything-- a peaceful humming sensation was flowing through my hands where the book met my fingertips.
Opening the book, words began forming on the pages, and I stayed stunned as it filled the pages before my eyes.
1914
"I have failed. The Demon King has whispered into the ears of many and a World War is now occurring promising them immortality. They don't know that their souls will be damned and they will be transformed to a shell of the person they use to be. He has gotten a new spell from The Book of Wisdom persuading anyone that is in pursuit wisdom, wealth, and power." I read aloud to Joshua as he stood still in front of me patiently.
"Eric has fled to America. The Book of The Future warned us that they must join the side of the allies in order to put a stop to this war.
I can feel that the Demon King will come to me soon with Eric gone from my side, so this is to you my dear Eric. It is not your fault." I finished the entry, feeling a deep ache settle in my chest.
"You are the Chosen One. It's a journal entry from the last life of the Chosen One," He said deadpanned.
"Then why didn't you guys just do this in the first place when you brought me here to see if I was a lying? You threw me in a dungeon claiming I was a demon!" I shouted feeling my anger spike remembering all the pain I've endured since being here.
Joshua grimaced at my tone, "Look, I am sorry, but when Samantha was founded at the age of five everything aligned. She came from a middle class family like all the others and exhibited a huge amount of aura. Her powers are of healing too, and she was loved by all. She also took this right of passage and it showed the same entry!" He shouted back. He was breathing heavily and went back to his typical stick up the ass upright position, "There was no way that she could have done something without us noticing, it was not like how we are doing this now, not alone, she was sired in with a ceremony."
"And Eric?" I pushed, "Was she sworn in by Eric? You said it yourself, he was missing. He was missing since I died the last time!"
That silenced him.
"We have to schedule an assessment ceremony." He finally concluded.
I skimmed over the entry once more. "What is the Book of The Future?"
"There was three books made by a league of witches. One was the Book of Wisdom, another was the Book of The Future, and another was a myth. No one has ever found it, and it was only a whisper among the witches themselves, but it was called the Book of The Dead."
