Gaara's P.O.V
Ever since we arrived at this forest, there's been something dark in the air. It's not me, so who or what is in this forest?
I was so frustrated about that, when we came into contact with a group of rain ninja, i killed them all without a second thought. We took their scroll, which was the one we needed and continued on to the tower.
We were almost to the tower, when i heard the most terror filled scream echo around me. Even more so than any of the people i've killed.
Kuncuro: " What...was that? "
" Stay here. "
I jumped back in the trees and back the way we had come. For some reason, i just knew that scream was Crystal.
Once i made it to where i thought the general location of the scream had come from, i was surprised at what i saw around me. A few fires were around, differently spaced dents in the ground and trees. A major fight had diffidently taken place here.
??: " I would...die.." I looked up and saw Crystal. She was bent over, face scrunched up in pain, panting and bleeding in various spots. " before...i would ever... go back. " Then i noticed the man near her. A sound ninja.
???: " Then you sshall...die! "
A sword came out of his mouth and he charged at Crystal, aiming for her heart, but at the last second she dropped to her knees, making the sword go clean through her shoulder.
Crystal didn't make a sound as the man laughed and pushed her off his sword. I watched as she very slowly stood up, only to be kicked off the branch.
As she fell, she closed her eyes like she was accepting her death. For some reason i didn't want her to die. I sighed inside my head as i jumped out to catch the falling girl. When my arms caught Crystal, her eyes snapped open.
Crystal: " Ga...Gaara. "
I waited until i landed on another branch to look down at her face.
Crystal: " Thank...you. "
She put her head on my chest and closed her eyes. I could feel her breathing slow. That worried me. It actually made me worry. Why does this girl evoke such things?
I carried her back to my siblings. Both of them looked really worried as they saw Crystal. I leaned her up against a tree and nodded to Temari.
My sister didn't waste any time checking over Crystal for injury's and treating what she could. I made myself wait a few minutes before looking back at the girl, who for some reason has never pushed me away.
" How serious are her injury's? "I said it more like a statement than a question.
Temari had just finished putting the bandage on Crystal's shoulder.
Temari: " Nothing to serious, just her shoulder seems pretty bad and shes lost a lot a fair amount of blood. I'm thinking she just needs some rest. Though i'm not really sure about her shoulder. "
" We'll camp here for tonight. "
My siblings didn't argue, they just got out their tents and set them up under the cover of a group of fallen trees.
After they went inside their tents for the night, i walked over and sat next to Crystal.
Dark came, but i didn't sleep. Thanks to the demon that resides in me.
I started to hear small whimpering noises beside me. I looked beside me to see Crystal shivering and small tears coming from her closed eyes.
Just as soon as it started, it ended.
Crystal bolted up right, gasping air as if it was being taken from her. She calmed down a bit after a few quick glances around the camp site.
I watched her purposely take a few deep breaths and then pull out a small glass teddy bear from under the top of her shirt.
" You still have the necklace. "
Crystal jumped from where she sat, then turned her head to look at me. Then with out warning she pulled me into a tight hug. The little sounds of crying reached my ears as her body slightly shook.
With out really thinking on what i was doing, i put my arms around her small frame and held her close.
It was quite awhile before she stopped. Crystal went to pull away, but i didn't let her. I only held her closer.
Crystal: " I did. "
" Did what? " Silently i cursed myself for sounding stupid.
Crystal: " I kept the necklace. It was the only thing i had left of you. I never wanted to leave any of you. My first family. "
I heard her whisper something about 'maybe more' but i didn't quite get it. So i said nothing about it.
" You should sleep. "
Crystal: " Ok. "
She yawned and then snuggled herself closer to me.
As her breathing steadied, i realized that when she is near by, i don't feel like a monster. I am human. That maybe i am capable of love.
