Prologue
The sky was an oppressive shroud of inky blackness, casting an eerie pall over the desolate landscape. The once-fertile lands were now barren wastelands, devoid of life and hope Scattered amidst the ruins were the lifeless forms of those who had perished in the kingdom's turmoil.
Friends were now enemies, lovers were fighters, family was a concept long forgotten. It was unfortunate, how tragic things were, and all just because of one small mistake that she’d made. But was she even to blame? Essentially, the world was the one who was cruel to her in the first place. Had it not cornered her into a dead end, this would’ve never happened.
But alas, as they say, there’s no use crying over spilt milk. Turning her back on the world was the only mercy she’d show them, the only hope she’d give them, regardless of everything, before she'd eventually rip that away too.
The seeds of her actions had been sown, and their fruits, whether bitter or sweet, would soon be revealed. Only time would tell whether she would rise from the ashes of her despair or succumb to the darkness that threatened to consume her.
