You meet Tom at the office entrance. "Ready to go?" He raises his eyebrows at you.
"Ready," you smile. You begin to walk out but a voice stops you. "Tom, wait!"
You turn around and see a blonde girl hastily walking over to you. This isn't really happening, is it?Tom seems visibly annoyed as Skyler stops in front of you and looks up at him with a pout.
"You're not leaving already, are you?"
He gives her a forced smile. "Yes, actually. Go enjoy the rest of your evening, Skyler. We'll talk tomorrow."
She frowns. "Bummer. You promised to get me a drink but you never returned."Tom shifts impatiently. You can tell that he just wants to get out of here.
"I'm sorry, I forgot. Next time, okay? We have to go now, good night, Skyler."
As soon as he says the word "we" her gaze shoots over to you. She furrows her eyebrows and looks you up and down. She has been giving you dirty looks this whole evening, but still she acts like this is the first time she's really noticing you."Aren't you going to introduce me to your... friend first?" She puts on the fakest smile you have ever seen, showing off her pearly whites.
Tom's jaw clenches and he hesitates for a second. "Of course. Skyler, this is Fiona Perkins. Fiona, this is Skyler Primrose."You force a pleasant expression on your face. "Nice to meet you," you say this without letting much emotion show.
"Agreed. Very nice to meet you." She doesn't even try to hide her sarcasm. "So how did you two meet?"Awkward question. You wonder how Tom is going to respond.
But he just lets out an exasperated sigh. "Listen, let's chat another time, okay? I think Avery is missing you already, as well."You look into the room and spot Avery, which indeed has his eyes fixed on Skyler. He seems antsy for her to return. You wonder what's going on there.
Before the Slytherin can respond, Tom grabs your arm and without another word, gently leads you out of Slughorn's office. You're a little startled by his sudden touch but you can't say you don't enjoy it.
As you reach the hallway, he doesn't let go either. For a while you walk in silence and eventually, his hand finds yours.
Again, you notice how your fingers seem to fit into each other perfectly. It feels so natural, but still causes an inferno in your stomach. You're holding hands with Tom Riddle. This is so bizarre. If anyone told you this just two weeks ago, you would have called them crazy.Tom finally breaks the silence. "I'm sorry about that. She can be a little clingy sometimes. But she's actually really nice."
"Yeah, to you," you think to yourself. You clear your throat in an attempt to make your voice sound steady, as to not let him know, that his hand touching yours is driving you insane."She seems a little smitten by you, to be honest."
He grins at you slyly. "Many people are, Fiona."
There's that arrogance again. As little as you like to admit it, you kind of missed it.You roll your eyes at him but chuckle. "I'm sure." You bite your lip and ponder if you should ask this next question. "And you? What do you think of her?"
You immediately regret asking that. You assume, it makes you sound incredibly insecure.
He studies you face for a bit. "She's just a friend." He smirks at you. "Nothing to worry about."Damn it. Of course you fed his ego with this question.
You scoff. "Why would I be worried?"
He laughs and his eyes sparkle at you. "Exactly."You reach the yard now and as soon as the chilly air hits your skin, a shiver runs down your spine. Even though your dress has long sleeves and you're wearing tights, the fabric is still incredibly light and the cold creeps in.
Tom seems to notice you shuddering and without a word he stops and takes off his jacket.
"Here," he says with a tone that leaves no room for discussion.
