After a morning of classes, Scott joined Gracie and her friends as they gathered, eager to help Scott find his gymnastics uniform.
Together, they laughed and chatted as they made their way to the shops with all the girls giddy to help out Scott.
As they entered the Adidas store, Scott couldn't help but feel a bit out of place.
As he looked around at the leggings that adorned the mannequins, he couldn't help but wonder how the gymnastics uniform differed from the sports uniform he was already given.
Gracie led him around as the other girls looked at clothing for themselves. Gracie explained that the sport uniform shirt he was given would work for gymnastics, saving him from having to buy yet another item.
"Okay, so we just need to find you some shorts and a sports bra," Gracie said, scanning the racks.
Scott's stomach churned as he hoped the shorts were the loose fitting kind.
After some searching, they found a pair of black spandex shorts and a matching sports bra. "This is what all the girls wear," Gracie explained with a smile. "You're probably a size small for both. Do you want to try them on?"
"No. They stretch anyways, it's probably fine." Scott said hesitantly as he stared at what he had to wear tomorrow morning.
"Yeah, the tighter the better," explained Gracie.
With the gymnastics uniform secured, they left the store. But as they continued down the high street, they passed an H&M store.
Chloe, one of Gracie's friends, suddenly stopped and pointed at a photo in the window. "Shut up! Look at this dress, it's perfect for Sophie!"
Scott's eyes widened as he looked at the purple mini dress in the display. "Oh, I don't think I—"
But before he could finish his sentence, Gracie and the others were already pulling him into the store. They were on a mission.
Inside H&M, they scoured the racks for the purple mini dress. Scott tried to explain that he wouldn't wear it since he only dressed as a girl at school, but the girls were having none of it.
Anna, one of Gracie's friends, chimed in, "Who cares if you only wear it once? It's perfect for the disco theme party next week!"
"Party!" Scott thought to himself. "I didn't know there was a party next week, I don't know if I can make it," Scott said trying to get out of having to buy this dress.
"Of course you're coming Sophie," Chloe laughed as she rapidly swiped through a rack or clothes. "You just got here! There's no way you have plans already."
She was right. Scott didn't have any plans.
"Found it," shouted Gracie. She handed Scott the dress, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. "Come on, Sophie, try it on. Trust me, you'll look amazing."
Scott, realizing he couldn't avoid it, reluctantly headed to the fitting rooms. As he slipped into the dress, he couldn't help but feel a strange thrill. He looked at himself in the mirror, surprised by how well it suited him.
When he stepped out, the girls squealed with excitement. "You look incredible, Sophie! It literally fits you perfectly," Gracie exclaimed.
Scott felt a strange mix of emotions. He hadn't expected to feel so... hot in the dress. At least he thought that's what he was feeling. He still stood there nervously as the girls looked him up and down.
Anna, another one of Gracie's friends, spoke up, determination in her eyes. "I don't care if you don't want it, Sophie. It'd be a shame for you not to have it. I'm buying this dress for you anyways!"
"Uhh- thanks I guess," Scott replied with mixed emotions.
The group returned to Arbury with Scott's wardrobe expanded. After a strong start to the day, with determination to make the most out of it, Scott was now just wanting to go home and ignore it all. Between the gymnastics uniform and the disco party next week, he was nervous and exhausted.
