After Snorlax leaves Route 7 open, the road feels calmer than it did when it was blocked by a sleeping mountain. Shauna has gone her own way for now, and our group continues toward Cyllage City, but Serena and I decide to stop near a peaceful clearing to bake Poké Puffs together. After the palace, the badge chamber, and the Poké Flute problem, a little baking feels like the kind of normal travel moment we need.
Serena sets out the ingredients with careful hands, while Fennekin watches like a serious assistant. Pancham tries to pose beside the mixing bowl, but Serena moves him away from the flour before his sunglasses can become white. Chespin sits nearby with heroic restraint, staring at the ingredients like they are a personal trial.
Chespin's meaning reaches me with dramatic struggle. "The sweet smell is powerful, but I learned that eating everything makes training harder. I will only taste when Serena says so."
"Good," Serena says, somehow reading enough from his face to understand. "You can help by waiting."
The clearing has enough flat ground for a small cooking setup, and a line of trees shields us from the wind. Serena spreads a cloth over a low table, and I place the bowls, berries, flour, cream, and decorations where both of us can reach them. It feels strange to think that so many major things have happened since we first reached Kalos, because right now the biggest problem is whether Chespin can be trusted near sugar.
Clemont and David sit nearby and compare notes about the Berry Field we took responsibility for earlier. Bonnie watches Dedenne with the serious expression of someone guarding a tiny thief, even though Chespin is the one most likely to steal food. Elline helps keep the finished trays covered so the wind does not bring dust onto them, and Shauna's earlier words about memories still linger in my mind.
Serena is more focused than usual. Ever since declaring that she wants to become Kalos Queen, small things have started looking different to her. Baking is no longer only baking. The shape of a Poké Puff, the scent that reaches a partner first, the way colors sit beside each other on a tray, and the smile a Pokémon makes after tasting it all seem connected to the stage she wants to stand on someday.
I mix a simple batter beside her, focusing on warmth and balance more than decoration. Serena's batch looks more elegant, with careful shape, color, and fragrance. When she adds a small floral touch, the scent spreads across the clearing in a gentle wave.
Fennekin's meaning reaches me with proud approval. "Serena's Poké Puffs should look beautiful and smell beautiful. Presentation matters because it shows care."
The smell draws more than our own Pokémon. A soft pink Spritzee flutters out of the grass, attracted by the fragrance. It hovers near Serena's bowl, sniffing the air with obvious interest, while another Spritzee peeks from behind a branch before fluttering away.
Spritzee's meaning reaches me like a delicate perfume note. "This scent is elegant, sweet, and carefully balanced. I want to know who made it."
Serena smiles and kneels gently. "You like the scent?"
Spritzee circles her once, then drifts toward me when I offer a warmer, simpler Poké Puff. It sniffs mine too, and its expression changes with surprise. The meaning that reaches me is thoughtful rather than greedy. "This one is less elegant, but it feels warm. The scent says someone wanted others to feel comfortable."
Serena looks at me, then at Spritzee. "Maybe it likes both."
"Then maybe we should show it both," I say.
Serena does not rush the moment. She lets Spritzee examine the trays, then asks Fennekin to sit still so the fragrance will not be disturbed by sudden movement. Pancham almost tries to introduce himself with a pose, but Serena catches his sleeve and gives him a look. He freezes, then bows instead, which Spritzee seems to accept as polite enough.
