We were back on Route 15, also known as Brun Way, when the Holo Caster rang again. The road should have felt like a normal stretch between destinations, with Dendemille Town waiting somewhere ahead and Lost Hotel sitting near the old side path. Instead, Lysandre's face appeared on the screen, calm and polished as ever.
"According to Professor Sycamore's research, Mega Evolution releases all of a Pokémon's hidden energy at once," Lysandre said. "The Pokémon then exhibits a level of power it could not attain through ordinary Evolution. What meaning can we draw from this? Do all people and Pokémon have such potential, or is it hidden within a chosen few?"
The call ended before anyone could answer. For a few seconds, only the wind moved through the leaves.
Clemont frowned at the blank screen. "That sounded like a question, but it also sounded like he had already decided what answer he wanted."
"That is what bothers me," I said.
Serena looked toward me. "You think he was talking about more than Mega Evolution."
"Yeah," I said. "When Lysandre talks about chosen few, I do not think he is only talking about Pokémon."
Pikachu pressed closer to my shoulder, and his meaning reached me through the uneasy flick of his ears. "That voice sounds gentle, but the thought behind it feels sharp."
"I feel it too," I murmured.
The call shadowed the road. Mega Evolution had always felt like trust to me, a power that awakened because a Pokémon and Trainer reached for each other at the same time. Lysandre made it sound like proof that some lives mattered more because they held greater hidden power. I did not like how easily he could take something beautiful and bend it toward judgment.
Serena must have noticed my silence because she walked closer. "We do not have to answer him today."
"No," I said. "But I think Kalos keeps answering him in ways he does not want to hear."
Brun Way itself felt half-forgotten, with uneven stones and old signs pointing toward places travelers no longer visited. Clemont explained that Lost Hotel connected to both Route 15 and Route 16, but most people only talked about it as a ruin now.
"That is sad," Bonnie said. "Hotels are supposed to help people rest."
I thought about the hotel badges we had earned before. Lost Hotel did not feel like a service challenge. It felt like a place where service had failed because someone had taken the heart out of it.
We continued along Brun Way until the buildings thinned and the Lost Hotel came into view. It looked abandoned from the outside, with cracked walls, dusty windows, and old signs that hung at tired angles. Even after the strange house, Route 16 forest, and Gourgeist Festival, this place felt different. The scary house had wanted visitors. Lost Hotel looked like it had been left behind by people who had stopped believing anyone would return.
Bonnie hugged Dedenne closer. "Are we really going inside?"
"We are," I said. "But we stay together."
Inside, the air smelled like dust, old carpet, and forgotten electricity. The lobby was large enough to have once been beautiful, with a chandelier hanging over the center and old battle posters fading along the walls. One desk lamp flickered even though nobody touched it, and a broken luggage cart leaned against the wall like it had given up years ago.
A timid desk clerk stepped from behind the counter and gave us a nervous bow. His uniform was clean, but the hotel around him made that cleanliness look lonely.
"Welcome," he said. "My name is Weston. Please excuse the condition of the hotel. I can show you to a room if you need rest."
Before we could answer, a faint metallic jingling echoed down the hallway. Something small and silver slipped around a corner. Serena gasped when she saw it floating near a broken door.
