The road toward Geosenge gives us a flower field before it gives us another problem.

The flowers spread across the grass in soft bands of color, and the wind moves through them. Clemont stops first, looking around like the field surprised him into forgetting his machines.

"What a beautiful place," Clemont says.

"The air is fresh here," David adds, breathing more easily than he did in Blackish Town.

We decide to rest there before continuing. Serena gathers flowers with Bonnie and makes crowns for herself, Bonnie, and Dedenne. Dedenne bounces with excitement when Bonnie sets one on his head, but he jumps too hard and knocks it away. The crown rolls through the grass, and Bonnie chases after it with Dedenne clinging to her shoulder.

When we follow them, we find something stranger than the lost crown.

An Eevee is dancing on top of a flat rock.

She is not just hopping around. Her paws touch the stone lightly, turning and crossing with a rhythm that makes the flowers around her look like part of the stage. Serena stops beside me, eyes shining as Eevee spins once and lands with the flower crown at her feet.

"It's an Eevee," Bonnie whispers.

"She likes to dance," Serena says softly. "She is so light on her feet."

Eevee's meaning reaches me through the way she lands lightly on the stone. "I want to dance where no one grabs the rhythm away from me."

"Tea is ready," David calls from behind us.

Eevee startles at his voice and vanishes into the grass before anyone can move.

David winces when he reaches us. "Sorry. I scared her."

The break becomes quieter after that, but not empty. Serena keeps studying the rock where Eevee had danced, tracing the steps with her eyes as if she can still see them. Bonnie makes another crown and gives it to Dedenne more carefully this time. Clemont repairs the handle on his machine without activating it, which everyone silently agrees is safer for the flowers.

I watch Serena practice one small turn in the grass. It is not a full routine, only the beginning of an idea, but I can see why Eevee caught her attention. Serena has been thinking more and more like a Performer since Camphrier. She does not only see a Pokémon move and think about battle. She sees what the movement says.

"That turn was from Eevee," I say.

Serena blushes a little. "Maybe. She looked free when she danced. I want a routine that feels like that, not like someone forced the steps into place."

"Then we should let her decide whether she wants to show us again," I answer.

That matters to me. Some Pokémon come charging toward a battle. Some run from everything until one person proves they can wait. Eevee feels like the second kind, and if we chase too hard, we will only teach her that hiding was the right answer.

"It is okay," Serena says, though she keeps looking at the rock. "Watching her gave me an idea for a new routine."

Elline smiles. "Then we only need to see her dance again."

Clemont tries his Living Thing Finder Mark 2 first. He explains that Mark 1 once helped search for Bonnie, which makes Bonnie immediately worry about why there needed to be a second version. The machine chirps, spins, and leads us confidently to a Vivillon and then a Budew. Then it smokes, flashes, and explodes in Clemont's face.

We split up after that.

Serena and I search together with Pikachu and Chespin. The flowers grow thicker near a line of trees, and Serena calls gently, hoping Eevee might hear without feeling chased. We find pawprints, a bent stem, and a few petals scattered across a rock, but no Eevee.
