A few seconds later, the whistle sounded loudly above the silence of the pitch and over the silence of the visitors, who were stood nervously at the sidelines awaiting the whistle.
The moment the whistle blew, breaking the existing silence, cheers and shouts started to pierce the air from both sides of the pitch, the girls on the pitch began to shout for one another and the sports reporters began narrating the game in excitement to the people who were watching the game from the uni local pubs.
The brown rugby ball was kicked into the air from the opposing team and our team began racing forwards to catch it. In slow motion, Imogen launched into the air, grabbing the ball, before beginning to sprint forwards.
"To your left!" Ella shouted to Imogen, she was following closely behind her, all 3 of us in a tactical pod together, supporting each other. Imogen was about to be tackled down to the ground when she turned slightly, throwing the ball to Ella.
Ella began running forwards when I noticed that she hadn't scanned the pitch properly, a girl from the opposing team began heading in Ella's direction and I knew that Ella hadn't seen her in her peripheral vision.
"This way!" I shouted, Ella's eyes widened and she threw the ball without even turning her head, to throw off her opposition. As the ball landed in my arms, I began to pick up my pace to get as far down the pitch as possible.
The throw off worked, as Ella didn't react, the opposing player began charging towards Ella, not anticipating her throw. Ella and the girl tumbled to the ground together behind me, a grunt leaving Ella's mouth as they hit the ground with force.
I managed to get a decent run down the pitch, but the opposing team players began to round up and charge towards me. I looked over both of my shoulders to see that both of my support weren't there, Imogen was running, trying to gain enough speed to catch me up but she wasn't fast enough.
"Fuck," I muttered under my breath. I knew I would have to take the hit as I had no one to support me.
"Where's the support?!" I heard Mia shouting angrily from the back of the pitch in annoyance, at the fact no one was nearby to offload the ball to.
A low grumble left my lips as my body smashed into a forceful tackle, knocking the wind out of my lungs. The opposing team player kept me down on the floor, as their teammates dragged the ball roughly out of my hands.
"Get your fucking heads in the game!" Another shout came from Mia, she was seething with anger, bewildered at the site in front of her.
I rolled from underneath the opposing player, watching as their team began to quickly move down our side of the pitch, getting closer to the try line.
A hard hit came from Emma, knocking the opposition onto the dried, but slightly muddy grass.
The game was by far our teams most challenging yet, full of none stop tough tackles and by half time, we were all exhausted. A sigh of relief left my heaving chest at the half time whistle, I really needed a break.
Usually when playing, there was a clear winner by half time, one team more worn out than the other. But this was a hard challenge for both teams, both the best in their league table, as they battled to win.
The teams both entered half time 0-0. I was currently sat on the cold white tiled floor of the changing rooms, with my knees brought up to my chest, hugging them.
The group were sat across the wooden benches of the changing room and scattered across the tiled floor, as Ella stood in front of a whiteboard which was built into the stone wall, giving a tactical talk. She pointed to the team sheet and positions which she had written on the whiteboard with black marker.
