murphy's law

[bex]

Time passes. Everyone's tired. Some more than others:

Psycho's knocked out — and I know what you're thinking, but no, she didn't slam her head against the wall. Clarke's leaning against her, sitting between her long legs, and holding her newly-bandaged hand. I know they're really just best friends, but all of their interactions are really questionable.

Clarke, Eiden, and Finn are all propped  up on that bench. Clarke and Finn stare at each other, clearly tired.

Then there's me, nodding off more than a few times as my thoughts become harder to follo...

"Hopefully we figure out how to look out for each other before Murphy kills us for helping her."

They're quiet enough, I guess.

"He's not the forgive and forget type," Clarke responds.

Finn finds the decency to not stare at the girl, finally taking his eyes off of her to look at Psycho. Clarke looks down too and swallows hard.

Their conversation is foggy, but I listen in anyway.

"Knew she'd do it at some point," Finn says. "Snap," he clarifies.

"She didn't snap. She's fine," Clarke defends.

But he's not even trying to be rude. He sounds pretty genuine actually. "Clarke, we're friends."

See?

"I know someone like that. Someone who keeps it all inside 'til they can't anymore."

Clarke starts to, but she doesn't even have to ask who. Finn tells her.

"My girlfriend. Raven."

Oh.

Ohhhh...

Oh.

"She works so hard, you know? But it's a lot. Everyone's going through something."

"She's on the Ark?" Clarke asks him.

He nods.

"How come you never mentioned her?"

"Never thought I'd see her again." He looks back at Eiden. "I just did."

[...]

My eyes drift open, and I reach down to stroke Charlotte's hair. Only...

My eyes are wide alert, and I scream her name, "Charlotte? Charlotte!"

The rest of the bunker snaps awake, with Clarke stating the obvious, "Charlotte? She's gone!"

"What?" Finn exclaims.

"Where did she go, Beatrice?" Clarke asks.

My body is still in shock, and my heart drops because I know the answer. Still, it's shock that makes me, "I thought she was doing— I didn't think she'd—"

"Where would she go, Bex?" Finn asks seriously, suddenly staring into my eyes, whenever it was he got here.

My eyes dart over to Clarke. I ignore the glare Eiden sends my way as my lips curl. "You think she couldn't tell how you and your friend felt about her? Could've done a better job hiding it, don't you think?" I shout.

"She could've done a better job at not killing our friend," Eiden cuts in, grimacing as she looks me up and down. "Maybe my attitude towards her would've been a little different."

Scoffing, I storm over to the ladder. "Are we going?"

They all follow me as I grab onto the ladder and start ascending it.

[...]

We're running through the dark forest, me up front but Finn mostly leading.

"Wait, wait, wait," he requests before stooping down to the ground. My eyes catch the muddy footprint. With a nod, he looks up. "Someone else was here."

"Charlotte?" I ask breathlessly.

"She crossed paths with someone."

Feeling my chest tighten and face get red, I start running again. "Charlotte!" I yell out.

But we all stop at the sound of her screaming, frightened voice: "Murphy!"

Murphy...

"He has her," I say quickly.

Curly hair comes into view, followed by, "It came from over there. Come on!"

And Eiden takes off, sprinting to the side. We run after her, losing sight a few times because she's fast, and we only catch up when she stops at a part deep in the woods.

I glance over at her, surprised since I thought she was a hateful bitch.

But that's for another time.

Hand torches light the otherwise pitch black woods.

"Bellamy! Stop!" Clarke yells. But he's the only one protecting Charlotte, standing protectively in front of her.

But everyone can see the cliff behind them. One wrong move and they both might go tumbling down. I keep my eyes on them though.

Charlotte looks up and sees me, and I nod with a sad smile. 'He'll protect you,' I mouth. Her eyebrows are raised, she's scared. It doesn't matter that she was ready to let Murphy do whatever he felt obliged to do, because she's just a kid, and she's changed her mind.

Clarke faces Murphy. Her voice is so quiet, but so is everything else. "This has gone too far. Just calm down. We'll talk about this."

And he grabs her. My eyes widen before Eiden is yelling, but when I find her, John Mbege and Ethon are holding her back.

"And hold her girlfriend back too," Murphy sneers, knife to Clarke's throat.

He won't do it. He said he didn't murder Wells, and he didn't. He won't.

"I will slit her throat!" Murphy yells.

Yeah, he's lost it. But as long as the attention's off of Charlotte...

Not for long, when she says, "No, please. Please don't hurt her."

Maybe it's guilt from killing her boyfriend. Maybe that's the root of it. But Charlotte didn't mean to hurt anyone, and she's making a mistake by speaking up!

"Charlotte!" I yell accidentally.

My eyes snap to Murphy. "No, she doesn't want me to hurt her," he smirks, hatred in his eyes. He turns back to Charlotte. "I'll make you a deal. You come with me right now, I will let her go."

The words continue, and I listen helplessly. Charlotte walks away from Bellamy, "Murphy, this is not happening. I can't let any of you get hurt anymore. Not because of me. Not after what I did."

"Charlotte! No!" I scream and run after her after she's turned around. She starts towards the cliff, and I push through the pain the best I can until my arm wraps around her and we both go down.

My feet leave the ground and the torch light dies down, escaping beneath the earth which rises up the farther we fall.

A/N:
Wow.
Everyone's problem with Finn is all: "ohh he's such a dirty cheater, blah bleh bluh."
Yeah, well, I love him! And he wasn't that bad.
So I did my duty to hopefully redeem his character.
Little Raven snippet? Yes please!
Alright, thanks y'all!
