34. Bit of an overreaction, eh?

we are grounders part 1

——bex

My fingernails start to resemble nubs under my teeth. Raven's been looking for too long. You'd think she'd find something faster. With how slow things are going, I have to think she's just being extra cautious.

Bellamy's hands squeeze his hips as he shakes his head. "Come on," he grumbles lowly.

I look up from his jacket to his eyes. "Relax. The drop ship is bigger than it looks."

"I know that."

Act like it.

Bellamy surprises me when he continues, "I didn't mean that. I mean, you're right. How are you this calm?"

I shrug because I don't have an answer for that. Jasper is probably getting tortured by that psychotic maniac, which I'm well aware of. But I just don't feel like panicking.

I don't know, I guess when I grabbed Charlotte on that cliff I didn't panic. Got shot with an arrow, almost inhaled gunpowder. Did I even cry when my parents died?

Bellamy raises the radio to his lips, but I have to reach my arm all the way up just to touch it. "No, let her focus."

I drop my head and turn around, only to see Octavia. My shoulders deflate as she stalks toward us angrily.

"I just heard Murphy has Jasper," Octavia says, all late to join the party.

"Yeah. South foxhole all done?" Bellamy changed the subject. Octavia has no idea what we're doing, so maybe that's not the right choice.

"What?" Her eyes dart between us both. Maybe I should leave them alone and keep waiting for Raven. "My friend is in there with a killer."

"Octavia, everything's under control. Give us a minute!" I say quietly.

"Yes, and while you're at it, keep in mind  that no one's working. If the grounders attack us right now, we're all dead."

This exposed with half-baked walls? I agree.

An intense look crosses Octavia's face before she's heading toward the drop ship. What is she doing?

"Octavia," I screech just as she bangs on the door. What is it with people and hitting metal? That shit hurts!

"Murphy! Murphy, if you even touch Jasper, I swear to God, you're dead."

"Chill! I said everything is fine, listen to me."

Octavia turns to me with fire in her eyes. I stand firm, looking her up and down, letting it slip for a second that we're friends. "You're with him on this? You hate Murphy more than anyone," she seethes. "And you're both just standing around doing nothing!"

This is why he should've told her. My eyebrows shoot up as I speak slowly, "We're not doing nothing, Raven is--"

Coming right towards us, thank fuck. "Yeah, you guys were right. There's a loose panel on the back. If I can pop it, we can get in through the floor."

Thank fuck.

Octavia looks slightly embarrassed as she sidesteps toward me. It takes everything in me not to roll my eyes. "Sorry," she says quietly, and now I have to keep from laughing.

Octavia meets my eyes, and I flick her in the head.

While they go over the plan I know all about, I watch Octavia. They're all in a conversation, but just where has she been? There's an obvious answer that her brother wont want to hear.
