I watched as Annabeth rushed off from the Dining Pavilion. Were her cheeks red? She had been talking to Malcolm and all of a sudden she was rushing off. Drew unfortunately saw who I was looking at.
"You know..." She started talking, a bit louder than necessary. "You never came back to the cabin after going to check on Annabeth, sis... Why was that?" She asked smugly.
"My friend needed me. I would assume you don't know what that's like, considering you have no friends."
My response just seemed to egg her on. "So, what are you now? The trauma patient's bitch?"
The next thing I knew, I was being dragged off of a screaming Drew by one of my siblings and an Ares kid that he hung out with. But, not before I gave her a nasty black eye. I guessed she'd either get it healed or cover it up, but it was still nice to know I hurt her.
Chiron told me to go for a walk. Probably less because he was mad at me and more because it was his job to keep us alive, or at least try to. However, I know for a fact he heard what Drew had said. So, I'm betting she would an earful for that a bit later.
I decided if I was gonna go for a walk, I could at least find and hang out with Annabeth. So, I went where she had been going, the training arena, I stood at the entrance. Annabeth was in there putting some training dummies in place so that younger and newer members of her cabin could practice using weapons before fighting someone who was more experienced than them. She always did that, so they could pick out the weapon that best suited them, and then figure out the correct way to hold and use their weapon. It seemed like a great idea, I mean, if you know how to use a weapon then you were slightly less likely to get seriously hurt or cut your own hand when sparring with it... And yes, that did happen to someone in my cabin. And no, it wasn't me.
She hadn't noticed me yet. I walked over, but I didn't say anything. Mostly because she was busy struggling with one of the dummies. I waited a few feet away. I guess she sensed someone watching her because she whipped around and unsheathed her dagger(She recently got a new one since she was apparently more comfortable with a dagger than a sword). She was in front of me with a dagger at my neck for a good few seconds before she realized it was just me. I just sorta stood there, I didn't feel like moving in some way that would get me stabbed. She'd been jumpy ever since the Giant War.
When she realized it was just me, she sheathed her dagger and smiled at me. "Oh, sorry Pipes, what's up?"
Her shining grey eyes, her smiling lips, that beautiful golden hair in a messy bun. She was beautiful. "It's fine, and nothing. Chiron just told me to take a walk to cool off. I may or may not have beat up Drew, just a bit."
"Why?" She raised an eyebrow, she went from smiling to looking sorta concerned.
"Uhm, you know... The usual... She was just being super annoying..."
She didn't look like she believed me, but she relented. I guess she didn't really feel like questioning me too much. She smiled again... That beautiful smile... "Hey, do you think you could help me move these dummies and set up these weapons?"
"Sure, why not?" As we got the arena ready we talked and joked. Working together we finished pretty quickly, the rest of camp was still eating, so we sat down to talk.
"So..." Annabeth started, "I was talking to Malcolm."
"Yeah, I saw. What about?"
"Well, he was honestly acting kinda weird, so I asked him about it and..."
"... And..?"
"It was about you being in Athena Cabin... He said you were there for a long time."
"Well, it took you a while to fall asleep, I promised to stay until you did..." I knew what she meant, I guess I just didn't want to admit it.
She didn't say anything. She just looked at me with a you-know-what-I-mean type of look.
Her eyes are so pretty.
"Alright... Yeah... I left right before you woke up."
"Why were you there that long?" She asked, her brow furrowed as she made that questioning face I'd seen a thousand times.
I didn't want to say the truth, but her storm-colored eyes had a stronger hold on me than my charmspeak had on anyone. It felt like they were forcing me to say something, but what if she didn't feel the same? So I lied. "I... Fell asleep..?"
I wanted to kick myself. Why didn't I just tell her? I'm a gods dam idiot.
