josh didn't say anything for a couple of seconds, he just stared at me. they felt like the longest seconds of my life. each one that passed made me regret saying anything. i had let my feelings get in the way of our agreement, it was clear to everyone. to josh. but it just felt right.
for so long i tried to ignore the way he would look at me. i studied the way he looked at other girls; at imogen, riley, lexi, all of them. he had this glisten in his eyes when they were on me. we always looked at eachother for too long to be 'just friends'.
and even though we never said it to eachother, we knew. we knew that this whole agreement was going to end this way from the beginning.
" i'll stay. " joshua said, a smile growing on his lips as he said it. i pulled him back inside and his lips met mine again in an instant.
josh used his foot to kick the door shut and pulled away, his eyes scanning my face. i tried to find any sign of regret in his brown orbs. any doubts that he had about saying yes. but i found nothing.
" come on, let's go to bed. " he said softly. once i made sure the front door was locked, we headed up to my room.
we got ourselves ready for bed and within seconds i was in joshua's arms. it was like a dream come true. my head was on his chest as his hand lightly ran up and down my back.
" you know you're breaking your own rule here. " josh teased, making me roll my eyes and pull him closer.
" don't remind me. i may have to kick you out. " i said half asleep. joshua's chest began to rise and fall as he chuckled.
" what's funny? "
" nothing, you're cute when you're sleepy that all. " my heart skipped a beat at his words. not just one beat, several.
" goodnight, beautiful girl. " josh said it so quietly, i almost didn't hear it.
" goodnight, joshua. "
i shut my eyes and all i could picture was joshs smile. his eyes. everything. it made my whole body warm knowing that i was going to sleep in his arms.
joshua leant down and placed a kiss on my forehead, lingering there before finally resting his head back down. just a few seconds later, i could hear his soft snores from next to me. i let out a little giggle, joshua bassett snores.
i found myself staring at joshua. i couldn't help it, he looked so peaceful. one. two. three. he had three freckles on his face. only small. the only reason i could see them was because of how close i was and the moonlight illuminating his skin. he also had faint smile lines. there had only been a few times i hadn't saw josh smiling, and that was only for a few seconds.
i think this was my turning point. the point where it all clicked. the moment i realised i was screwed. my friends had been wrong. i don't like joshua bassett. i'm fucking in love with joshua bassett.
