I've been with the pack a week already and still every morning I wake up expecting to be in my warm comfy bed in my room at home, only I'm not. Instead I wake up on a hard worn down mattress in a cold dark room in Tanner's house.

Things between Tanner and I have been good. I don't know why everyone avoids him or says he's a bad guy, he's been nothing but sweet to me, giving me a room in his house and helping understand who and what I am. He really is a good guy in my opinion, nothing romantic has happened between us, which I do find slightly weird as there's clearly attraction between us, after the first night staying here he's kept his distance on that level.

"Bree you awake? Breakfasts ready," Tanner calls through my closed door

See what I mean though, he cooked me breakfast or at least got breakfast for me. He's a nice guy; I don't know why the others can't see that.

"Ok won't be a minute," I call back wiping the try sleep from my eyes

Jumping out of bed I slip on a pair of sweats Tanner gave me and a vest top I brought in my bag, I then exit the room and make my way into the living room where Tanner's sat eating a Bacon roll.

"Where'd you get these?" I ask curiously, the past week all we've eaten is porridge or burnt bread, I never complained of course but it wasn't the nicest thing to eat.

"I went off perimeter this morning, thought we deserved something nice to eat after the crap we've had all week," he smirks then takes a big bite of his baguette

"Naughty, naughty," I smirk back taking a bite of my own. "Well I thank your disobedience; this is worth getting in trouble for."

I don't understand why we aren't allowed to go off the perimeter, yes I know there are other packs out there and I know I'm at risk, but surely the males in the pack, aka Tanner, would be fine on his own, it's not like he's some skinny runt that doesn't know how to defend himself.

"Tan can I ask you something?"

"You just did," he smirks

"Ha ha. No seriously though, why aren't you allowed to go off perimeter on your own?" I ask curiously

"Rose, your mother, ordered us not to after we lost one of our pack. He'd gone off to do the weekly shop, pick up the essentials that we needed like bog roll, milk, bread, just the simple things, he only got as far as 10 minutes out of the perimeter before he was ambushed by another pack, they tore him to pieces in seconds from what we could tell from the remains," Tanner explained as my mouth gapped open in shock.

"Are you serious?"

"I wouldn't lie about something like that, it was horrendous, he was just a kid, an Omega."

"What's an Omega?"

"Wow you really know nothing about being a wolf do you," Tanner chuckles. "Omega's are generally the lowest in rank under Beta and Alpha's. Alphas are the leaders, the strongest of any pack. Betas are second in line, they're able to look after themselves a little better than an Omega, they can also mate with Omega's and sometimes even mate an Alpha, as long as the Alpha consents that is. Luckily for you, you've come into this pack and are already a Beta, your strong personality and the strength you already show will be intimidating to the Omega's already in this pack, I doubt they'll ever try challenge you, but at the same time those same reasons are going to be the reasons other Beta's will challenge you for rank and dominance."

"Great," I sigh sarcastically

"I wouldn't worry yourself Bree. I saw the way you handled yourself last week with Leia and since then she's not said a word to you."
