"I'm your brother!"
"What?"
Hang on, there is no way this is true. I barely know this kid. He appears out of nowhere and then all of a sudden he's brought me to this rundown apartment and now he's telling me he's my brother, this is madness.
"Your joking right, this has got to be a prank?"
"I'm serious Bree, you're my little sister," Cole explains with little detail.
"There's no way?"
"I don't know what you want me to do to prove it to you but it's true. I'll answer any questions you ask, just give me a chance to explain," he begs with pleading eyes.
Internally I battle with myself. On one hand I want to carry on running, leave this apartment and never look back, but on the other hand a small part of me is intrigued. This guy who was a stranger only a few days ago could be my brother, a brother I didn't even know I had.
"Ok, one chance, explain!"
Cole extends his hand pointing toward the living area for me to leave the door and go sit down. If I'm going to give him this chance then I may as well take a seat, I've got a feeling this could be a long conversation.
I move from the door and make my way over to the sofa taking a seat when I get there. Once seated Cole takes a seat opposite me inhaling a deep breath before beginning to speak.
"Well erm where to start, my name is Cole Mitchell."
"That's my mum's last name," I interrupt him without thinking
"Also my mother, and my last name. She's kind of one of the reasons I'm here but we'll get into that another time, I'm here for you, I came back to town for you Brianna!"
"What do you mean for me? I have no idea what you're on, but you're making no sense," I tell him
"Ok I'm going to cut right to the chase. I know you're a werewolf, I know the changes you've been going through and I know how to help you."
My mouth drops open, there's no way he could know about me, he's bluffing. I bet he's just guessing trying to catch me out or something, McKenna is the only one who knows about me, I haven't told anyone else.
"I have no idea what you're talking about!" I say in defence.
"Since you had your first monthly you're bodies been changing, developing differently to other girls your age. Instead of just breast growth and mood swings you're experiencing increased strength, hearing, scents, I bet if you really focused on something to you'd also be able to zone your vision onto something 40 foot away."
Everything Cole said is true. He's exactly right, I don't know about the vision thing, but everything else he had down to a T. Maybe he does know I'm a werewolf, but how and why? Has my mother got something to do with this?
"You said my mum was your mum, how is that possible? If you're really my brother then how have I not known about you until now?"
"When mum and David split up," Cole begins but I'm quick to interrupt him,
"Wait you call dad David?"
"David is your dad, not mine. I don't know my dad but mum told me he died when she was pregnant, she met David and then you were born. I wasn't sure why we left, until I got older, but then mum explained everything."
"What's everything Cole?"
So many emotions are going through my head right now, I have no idea what to feel or even think at this point, I'm shocked.
"I don't want to get into that now, like I said at the beginning I'm here for you Bree, it's not safe for you here now, David can't protect you."
"Now you're just trying to freak me out, what do you mean can't protect me?" I question feeling slightly scared.
I'm not sure why exactly I am scared, I mean I'm a werewolf for goodness sake. I could hear or smell someone coming a mile away and even if they did get close I know I could take them on, yet something in his eye and the tone of his voice has me worried.
"COLE! What do I need protecting from?"
"Them, all of them, every one of them that can smell you from miles and miles away," he replies with worry.
"Who's them," I ask but he doesn't answer, instead Cole gets up from his seated position and begins pacing the room while rubbing his hands all over his face. "Who are they Cole and why are they after me? What did I do?"
"You've done nothing Brianna, it's your smell, your scent. Young female werewolves are very hard to come by nowadays, so whenever one reaches maturity they all come out of the woodworks, hunting, waiting, getting ready to pounce. It's not safe for you here anymore, not on your own."
Now I'm seriously confused. There are more of them out there, more people like me, creatures of the full-moon. Creatures that are apparently coming after me, but for what? What do they want with me just because I'm female?
"Are you understanding what I'm saying to you Brianna?"
"No, not really!"
"These wolves, they want you for their mate. They will fight for you as well as against you if they don't get what they want. Being here alone is not an option but if you leave with me I can protect you, my pack can protect you!"
What! His pack? Oh shit, he's a werewolf!
"You?" I say standing and pointing a finger. "You're a werewolf too?"
Cole nods taking a step closer, but as he steps forward I step back. This whole afternoon has been full of information that's just too much to take in. First he tells me that he knows I'm a werewolf, then that I'm in danger of other werewolves coming to find me to mate me, and now he's saying he can protect me if I join his pack because he's a werewolf too.
"Bree please don't be scared of me, I'm your brother, I can protect you!"
"No, no you stay away, this is all so sudden, how do I know you're not one of them, one of the wolves who want me for themselves? Or just some random person who found out what I am and your trying to publicise this whole thing," I say breathless while I back toward the door.
"Bree you've got to believe me, I'm not lying to you, just come sit back down and we'll talk."
"No, I've had enough, I'm leaving and you're not going to stop me!"
I backed up slowly toward the door, with my hand behind my back feeling the air, until I reach the handle, when my hands wrapped around the handle I push down slowly until I hear a creek. Cole looks at me with sad eyes as I slowly open the door backing out of it, with one last glace back I take off running down the hall and out into the alleyway we came in through.
I don't become out of breath or tired as I run, in fact the harder I push the better I feel. My adrenaline pumps fiercely through my veins as I speed passed buildings and people without them even knowing I was there.
I soon find myself at home, still with questions un-answered and my mind in turmoil. I couldn't stay there though, there was nothing left I had to say to him. Yes I want to know about my mum and other werewolves but not today, I'm too tired for anything more today.
I slump down on my bed and pull my duvet up to my face, it's always a been a comfort thing ever since I was a child and to this day it still comforts me. Making myself comfortable in bed I bury my face in my pillow and pull my duvet under my chin, finding my happy place I soon drift off thinking of everything I've been told today.
