Born With A Curse

Chapter 17.

"Tanner can you please come and help me with this zipper," I beg for the second time while Tanner just laughs amusingly. "It's not funny, I really can't reach it and if I'm not ready soon we're going to be late."

With another low chuckle Tanner stands from the armchair in the living room and strides over to me where I'm stood in the doorway of the hall, I uncross my arms and turn around showing my bare back, I feel the cold metal of the zipper make its way up my back as the dress tightens and closes.

"There all done, now stop moaning," Tanner laughs taking his seat back in the chair

"I wasn't moaning, I simply needed help and thank you for finally helping," I reply saying the last part sarcastically.

"You're very welcome," Is his sarcastic reply

Mum had loaned me this dress when she announced we would be having this dinner. Apparently the pack has these meals together once a month so they can all get together and find out what the others have been up to. Kind of a way to keep tabs on each other without being too invasive but if you ask me it's just a way for everyone else to find out your business.

I guess I can use today as a way to try and make friends as I've not spoken to anyone apart from my mum, Cole and Tanner. It's hard to only speak to a few people, when back home i had loads of friends, speaking of friends I'm missing McKenna like mad. She is not only my best friend, but she is like a sister to me.

"Are you ready to go now?"

"Yeah let's go."

Taking Tanner's extended arm in mine we exit his house and make our way toward the woods. I have no idea why we're going toward the woods as I thought we were going to dinner but I decide to just go with it. After making our way through some random bushes we step into an open space, centred in the middle is a large wooden table, like something from the Victorian times where a king would sit and feast.

"Wow," I whisper

"Come on," Tanner encourages with a smile as he escorts me to the table.

He unlinks my arm and pulls a chair out for me, I take a seat on the end of the table, shuffling my chair back under the table Tanner takes a seat next to me. I can see Leia at the other side of the table talking quietly with Chase, she glances over giving me a dirty look before turning her attention back to her boyfriend. I don't understand what her problem is, yes we fought and it was her fault, get over it already.

"You ok? You seem a little nervous," Tanner asks kindly, I still don't understand why everyone labels him the bad guy.

"I'm fine, thank you, not just for escorting me here so I didn't look like an idiot but for everything, it means a lot."

"It's my pleasure," he smiles, which I return.

Moments later the rest of the pack arrive, Clark, then Justin and finally my mother, the Alpha, escorted by my brother Cole.

"Glad everyone could make it, it's nice to see you all. Now as you all know there has been some tension in the pack since the arrival of Brianna."

"She shouldn't be here anyway!" a mumble from the back of the table, we all know who it was but I chose to ignore it.

"Now that's enough, we are a pack, a family, we need to put our differences aside and get along. If we do not then there could be serious consequences. That will be our only aim for tonight, to get along and have a good time, we have no concerns and no one has tried to attack in a while. So tonight we laugh, we smile and best of all we eat well," my mum finishes her speech then takes a seat at the head of the table next to me.
