Devastation knocked on everyone's doors at least once during the war. There was no way of escaping the fact. Towns that played as the Divine and Fell Dragons' battlefields were eaten up and spat on onto the ground, torn up and barely livable. They were burned to the ground, smashed by outrageously powerful tomes, and overrun by Corrupted.

As I stood there, witnessing the tragedy that was now in my village, I couldn't help but stare while tears came to my eyes and the full wreckage and damage done really hit me.

"Oh. N-no... no, no, no..." I muttered, my hands clenched at my sides. After the war was done, relief was supposed to be expected. But the after-effects were anything but. Houses were falling in shambles, our food supply was limited, and the peace at night felt like a lie ready to trap us.

While the town was small, with only one able carpenter, many unlivable homes in desperate need of repair couldn't be easily given. Without any help, my quaint but weak little farming village would soon crumble and be gone with the wind.

"Yes. I'm Lapis."

"And you said you're here to... rebuild the town?"

"Correct. Despite my petite appearance, I assure you that I can and will help your town. I've lived off the poor land of my hometown since I was a child. I know the pains of poverty. Please allow me to help."

I spin around. Talking to a handful of villagers was a small girl in blazing red armor. She wasn't particularly robust looking, and her lack of vertical blessings added to the fact. Alongside her bubblegum pink shoulder-length hair, she had large almost doll-like bright eyes of a similar unbelievably unrealistic shade.

There was a large broadsword at her side, but aside from that, she resembles no warrior or Savior for our land. Heck, she had ribbons in her hair.

"We'd never be able to repay you, Miss." Says another.

"Do not fret. I'm only here to help, not try to pry money out of your hands when you have none to spare." She smiles warmly, just like a small, innocent girl would.

Yet when they put her to work, she turned out to be some kind of a natural survivalist, instructing everyone how to live off the land. I watched her as she rebuilt buildings and provided meals to bears she fended off. For her unimpressive stature, she was much, much stronger than I initially imagined.

Although, I didn't approach her. I was wary. Her help was free, but people don't often do things like this without any cost at all.

When I decided to keep a close eye on her, all I found out was her hobbies seemed to include gathering objects that you'd assume couldn't be used, but she fashioned them all into useful items — using even weeds for rations and such.

She is a natural craftsman, making quality goods out of mere scraps. The girl would go around and whip up a new roof or several doors in a day. She slept at the scrappy inn and then woke up the next morning to continue working.

One day, while she was patching up the exterior walls of my family's home, I gave up on turning a blind eye to her stunning actions and spoke to her.

"The name's (Y/N). You are?" I asked calmly as she hammered another wooden plank into the beams she'd set in place the day before.
