Being of Brodian descent, I had the chance to serve the royalty native here, the crown prince Diamant, and his younger sibling Alcryst. However, I was of the commoner status, alongside my elder brother, and while we both dreamed fervently to be heroes like in the fables and legends of Elyos, for a long time, it seemed like only a dream.
We never gave up, however, resulting in our hard work paying off. When at first our wish to be knights was mere childish hopes and fantasies, they were now our reality. That is what brought me here. Having placed second to Jade in a battler tournament, Amber was one of the two selected to be Diamant's retainer.
Unfortunately, I came in third, but to my luck, I was granted a position guarding the chamber in which the sacred ring, which was granted on this land from Lythos' Divine Dragon Monarch, Queen Lumera.
The story goes that the circlet, bathed in a never-fading gold and carrying the proudest of rubies in its band, had two names. Either the Ring of the Young Lion or the Emblem of Binding suited and this was why.
Since Amber and I were dedicated to the lore of this continent, I could ramble for ages about the Prince of Pherae, Leader of the Lycian Army, for hours if anyone were to ask. In my book, he stood among heroes as great as the Hero-King and such. At the mere age of fifteen, he took up a sword in the name of his father and of his country. He was said to be intelligent, humble, and kind-hearted, but overall, wielded the willpower to win. Even more recently, well, er, a millennium ago, he and the other twelve saved this world alongside the new Divine Dragon, Lumera's child.
In a place such as this, Brodia, where victory and strength are valued above all, such a figure as Roy was protected and praised plenty.
Alas, in the last several centuries, tales of ghosts of warriors residing inside a small hoop of metal were laughable. Regardless of many's lack of faith, for years, I stood my post, protecting the hall dedicated to Roy's ring.
If you asked me, I'd deny it, but inside, I always secretly hoped that one day, someday, I would be granted the chance of meeting him.
Still, after one thousand years of silence, it was extremely unlikely that I would be chosen. But when Diamant began to hear a voice calling to him from the ring, I was anxious to hear too.
Soon after, the Divine Dragon Alear arrived in search of alliance, and in turn, released the spirit of Roy from his slumber inside the ring, right before our very eyes. In a blinding flash of crystal blue light, a young man stood before everyone's eyes. I doubted myself for a moment, but only for a moment, before the rush of excitement ran through my veins.
Without any hesitation, I volunteered to join Alear's team, and Amber did too — although his reason was also his duty to fight for his lord, Diamant. Somehow, the deity of red and blue deemed me worthy enough to fight with the ring, with Roy.
"As you likely know, my name is Roy. It's truly an honor to fight alongside you, (Y/N)." He spoke as I carefully slid the golden band onto my trembling fingers. "I hope that I can aid you in our future battles." At first, I was intimidated by his sheer power, but his small, polite smile had me holding my breath for another reason.
"Really, I am the honored one." I insisted. For some reason, the good-natured look in his cobalt eyes had me spilling out my thoughts recklessly. "I've been hoping since I was a little kid that I could meet you, to be honest. I've been looking over your ring as well for years, I mean, when it was kept in Brodia Castle."
His smile widened at that, and I fretted over if I had said too much or not. "I appreciate your kind words, and I hope my clumsiness doesn't get in the way."
