Vaughn POV

"That's Jaden?" Alec askes, "...He's the illustrator?"

"Yes, is there a problem?" Nick asks.

"No..no there isn't."

"Okay," Nick seems uncertain but continues anyway, "if that is all, I will leave the two of you too get to know each other so it isn't awkward while working."

With that, Nick left the room, leaving Alec staring at me with complete disbelief.

It took a few seconds before he asked, "You're really Jaden? The all famous illustrator?"

I didn't respond to him, instead I walked towards the small, temporary desk which has been set up for me. My only intention here was to get the photo and leave. I didn't need the extra stress of Alec finding out about my job, especially not today, but the best I could do was not give into his questions.

"So you achieved your dream?"

My heart dropped. Why did he still remember that? Why did he make it seem like he still cared?

"Shut up." I cut him off as I sat down.

"Sorry," He paused before continuing, "I'm really happy for you.. Honestly, I am... But why didn't you tell me?"

He seemed to have realised he messed up as he quickly added, "I know what I did to you, but still it would've been nice to know you made it."

My heart began to race as my breathing became sharper. Was I really about to have a panic attack here?

"Alec, Stop acting like you care."

"But I do Van-" He stopped himself, "Vaughn, I just want to know that you're okay and doing okay for yourself."

"You sure didn't care when I was in hospital."

With that, Alec kept quiet, despite looking like he wanted to say something more.
