Alec POV

I still couldn't believe it. Vaughn achieved his dream. It wasn't as if I didn't believe he couldn't achieve his dream - I did. It was just a shock to me that not only had Vaughn gone under a fake name, but he also was the most famous illustrator in the country.

As I drove home, my mind was racing with how I would explain to Toby how Vaughn achieved his dream - and outdid everyone else. The thought made me happy - yet angry at the same time. I wasn't angry at Vanny, yet I was more annoyed at myself - and somewhat Toby. If we hadn't left him all those years, we would've known this for years. We would've been able to watch him grow, celebrate all his small achievements with him. Yet, we weren't. We left him - and it angered me.

As I arrived into the house, I saw Toby sitting on the couch.

"Hey Alec," He greeted, "How was work?"

I didn't even greet him back, I just hugged him tightly.

"Woah!" Toby exclaimed, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"

"He did it."

"What?" Toby asked, "Who did what?"

"Vaughn... he did it."

"Wha-", He began but stopped as his eyes widened, ".. He did it..?"

I realised what Toby's mind immediately went to. The thought broke my heart that it was even a possibility, yet it had already been proven once to be a valid worry he could have.

"No," I interrupted his thoughts before they spiralled, "He got his dream."

"He's an illustrator?" Toby asked confused, "But we looked him up recently and nothing came of it."

I took a deep breathe, "Jaden Pittman", I continued as Toby only seemed more confused, "Vanny is Jaden!"

Toby seemed to understand, as tears weald up in his eyes.

"He really did do it." Toby mumbled, wiping his eyes, "Oh my god."

"He did." I smiled at him, "He got his dream after all."

Toby only smiled more as if he was a dad watching his son win an award, "He deserves it, especially after everything he's been through."

The second comment dimmed the mood a little, and it was all out of self-hatred.

How were we ever going to make it up to Vanny?
