When I returned home later that evening, the sight that greeted me was both endearing and amusing. Tree, who had promised to be the responsible adult for the night, had succumbed to sleep, curled up on the sofa. Bridget was wide awake, her eyes bright with anticipation as she spotted me.

I couldn't help but laugh softly at the scene. "Looks like you outlasted Tree," I said, smiling at Bridget.

She nodded proudly. "I told you I'd behave well. See, no trouble at all," Bridget said with a grin, gesturing towards the peacefully sleeping Tree.

Then, her expression turned curious, and she asked, "So, how was your evening with Travis?"

I settled down next to her, ready to share the details of the night. It felt good to have this moment with Bridget, a chance to talk and connect about our lives. As I began to recount my evening, I was reminded of the special bond we shared, one that was strengthened by these simple, yet meaningful, moments together.

Sitting beside Bridget, I could see her eagerness for details. "Travis is really something," I started, my voice infused with warmth. "We had a great time. He's funny, and he actually listens, you know?"

Bridget's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Really? What did you guys do?"

I chuckled, recalling the evening. "Well, we had dinner at this quaint little Italian place he knows. He was a complete gentleman. Pulled out chairs, made sure I was comfortable. It's refreshing, honestly."

Bridget leaned in, her interest piqued. "And then? Did he serenade you with sweet nothings under the moonlight?" she teased, a playful glint in her eye.

I laughed, shaking my head. "Not quite. But he did share some hilarious stories from his football days. And you know what? He asked a lot about you."

"Me? Why?" Bridget looked genuinely surprised.

"Because he knows how important you are to me," I replied, reaching out to squeeze her hand. "He really wants to make a good impression on you, Bee."

She smiled, a little shyly. "Well, he's off to a good start, I guess."

"And he drove me home in that convertible you were so excited about," I added with a wink. "I must admit, it felt like something straight out of a movie scene."

Bridget laughed, her earlier tension easing. "I can't believe you're actually re-living your own lyrics, mom. Sounds like you'll be getting a happily ever after."

I grinned, "baby, I already have a happily ever after because I have you."

We shared a comfortable silence for a moment, just enjoying each other's company. It was moments like these that I cherished the most - simple, unguarded, and filled with love.
