Bridget was discharged from the hospital a few days later, and it wasn't long before she was back to her energetic self. I watched, a smile tugging at my lips, as she and Travis engaged in a playful boxing match in the living room. They moved around with exaggerated care, throwing soft, mock punches and ducking with theatrical flair.
"Come on, Travis, you can do better than that!" Bridget teased, bobbing on her toes and feinting to the left.
Travis chuckled, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "I'm going easy on you, Bee. Don't want to unleash my full boxing prowess!"
I leaned against the doorway, my heart swelling with joy at the sight. It was moments like these – filled with laughter, play, and unspoken bonds – that reminded me how far we'd come as a family.
Before I knew it, Bridget and Travis had turned their playful boxing into a spontaneous dance party. Bridget reached out, grabbing my hand with a mischievous grin. "Come on, mom, join us!" she exclaimed, pulling me into the impromptu dance floor of our living room.
Travis was already swaying to the rhythm as the music filled the room. We danced around, laughing and spinning, each of us lost in the music and the happiness of being together. As we danced, I couldn't help but feel a surge of gratitude. Here we were, a family united by love and laughter, dancing away any remnants of the worries and challenges we had faced. It was a perfect moment, a reminder of the simple joys that make life so beautiful.
In the midst of our impromptu living room dance party, the energy was infectious. Bridget and I were spinning around, laughing, our hair flying in all directions as we danced to our favorite songs. Travis was watching us with a fond smile, occasionally joining in with his own quirky moves. The music, the laughter, it all created a perfect, joyous bubble around us.
Then, as the song shifted to a slower, more romantic tune, Travis's demeanor changed. He gently took my hand, guiding me into a slow dance. Bridget watched, a knowing smile on her face, as Travis and I swayed together.
In the middle of our dance, Travis suddenly let go of my hand, stepping back. Before I could question it, he dropped to one knee, and everything seemed to stand still. From his pocket, he produced a small, beautiful ring box.
"Taylor," he began, his voice steady but rich with emotion, "being with you and Bridget has been the greatest adventure of my life. You've both brought so much joy, love, and light into my world. I can't imagine spending my days with anyone else. Will you marry me?"
Tears welled up in my eyes, a mixture of surprise, joy, and love overwhelming me. "Yes, of course I will!" I exclaimed, my voice choked with emotion.
As he slid the ring onto my finger and kissed me, Bridget cheered and rushed over, enveloping us both in a tight hug.
"He got my blessing first," she announced proudly, her eyes shining with happiness.
Travis chuckled, standing up and wrapping an arm around each of us. "Oh yeah, your daughter doesn't just give her blessings easily. I had to pass the Bridget Swift Intensive Approval Survey."
I raised an eyebrow, glancing at Bridget. "A survey, huh? When was this?"
Bridget nodded, her grin wide. "Yep! After we came from the hospital. I had about thirty questions. You know, the usual stuff. 'What's your favorite Taylor Swift song?' and 'Can you name at least three of her cats?'"
Travis feigned a look of seriousness. "That was tough. I mean, how can you pick just one song as a favorite?"
"And let's not forget the essay question," Bridget added with a playful roll of her eyes. "'Why do you think you deserve to be part of the Swift family?' I gave him extra points for creativity there because he mentioned wanting to put on your hot pink cowboy boots."
I laughed, shaking my head in disbelief. "I can't believe you two. A survey? Really?"
Travis grinned, kissing me. "She also made me promise to always keep the fridge stocked with your favorite snacks. Apparently, that's a deal-breaker."
"It's the little things that count," Bridget chimed in, winking at me.
Travis's smile widened, "Oh, and there was also the 'emergency dance party' clause. I have to be ready for spontaneous living room dance-offs at any given moment."
Bridget nodded earnestly. "Very important for family bonding. And don't forget the 'no spoilers' rule for our favorite TV shows. That includes 'Gilmore Girls' and 'Friends'. Doesn't matter if we've seen them before, we pretend like we didn't."
I chuckled. "And here I thought saying 'yes' to a marriage proposal was the easy part!"
"Ah, but there's more," Travis continued, his eyes twinkling. "I also had to agree to a strict 'no tickling' policy. Apparently, someone has very ticklish feet."
Bridget giggled.
"But most importantly," Travis added on with a serious tone, "I promised to be there for both of you. No matter what, no matter who steps in your way."
I wrapped my arms around them both, my heart full of love and amusement. "Well, it sounds like you've passed the ultimate test. Welcome to the Swift family - quirks, dance parties, and all."
We all laughed, the joyous sound echoing around the room, a perfect end to a perfect day. And a perfect start of a new unforgettable adventure.
