I peel open my eyes, squinting as the sun hits my face - the warmth soaking into my lightly tanned skin. I pull myself to my feet, taking in my surroundings, confusion filling my mind, and pressing down on my chest, as I feel the panic rising.
I (mentally) claw desperately at a wall somehow blocking me from the answers to my questions. The major questions bubble to the surface of them all, how did I get here? Why can't I remember anything?
My eyes linger at a large concrete wall, vines strung across the smooth surface. With a trembling breath, I reach for the vine, giving it a small tug, before pulling myself up the wall. My muscles burn as I climb, hands sore and red raw from the vines.
I reach the top of the wall, my fingernails digging into the concrete brick, as I pull myself over the side and to safety. I sigh in exhaustion, gulping in a deep breath of air, filling my deflated lungs. I slowly stand up, careful not to fall, and absorb my surroundings - once again.
The sight around me fills me with a burning anger, the air being sucked from my chest, eyes filling with tears and a loud scream of pure fear and exhaustion escaping from my parched lips.
The sight of an enormous concrete Maze.

I sit upwards quickly, my sleep interrupted by a scream bouncing off of the homestead walls. Pulling on some clothes, I sloppily make my bed and leave my room. "How's Ben?" I ask, entering the Medjack's room and staring at the boy convulsing on the white bedsheets.
"Good, I think we got the Grief Serum to him in time." Clint replies, slotting pill cartons into a rickety wooden drawer.
I nod, clearing my throat and rubbing a hand over my short (almost bald) head. "Okay, have you had breakfast yet? I'm just heading down to Frypan's."
Clint lifts his eyes to meet mine, but he soon averts them to Ben, as he begins to whimper loudly. "Don't worry, I'll come down in awhile - you go ahead." He shoots a smile over his shoulder as I turn to leave, unprepared for the dramatic day that awaited me.

My chest rises and falls, each breath ragged as I perch myself on the walls surrounding the 'Glade', as they called it anyway. I keep my body low and out of sight, as the boys mill around drearily, almost as though they were dead.
My heart leaps in my chest as a boy looks up at the wall, the wall I am situated at. I tug my light brown hair over my shoulder and shuffle backwards, still laying on the concrete wall.
He looks away, almost as though he had seen a rather strange bird atop the large walls, his short brown hair the only thing noticable about him as he walks into a shack - a hammer and nails clutched in his rather large hand.
I continue to crawl backwards on the wall, turning myself around to watch over the maze boys, or Runners, as the 'Gladers' called them. I stand, sensing nobody nearby, and leap from the tops of each wall, my bare feet slamming down on the hard surface, my chestnut hair fanning out behind me.
My breath hitches in my throat, as I come across a muscular Asian boy. He sips his water slowly, whilst scribbling some notes onto an old notepad. I clamber down the other side of the wall and creep around the corner, continuing to stare curiously at the boy, who was thankfully unaware of my presence.
My eyes fall to the sandwich, situated on a brown paper bag next to him and my stomach growls loudly.
My body freezes as the boy looks over, eyebrows furrowing at the sight of me. He stands up slowly, afraid that any sudden movement could frighten me away.
I flinch as he takes in my attire, backing away as the boy tries to take a step forwards.
"Wha...?" The Asian guy splutters, unable to form any other words.
A sudden urge of defence takes over my body as he lunges towards me, aiming to grasp my arm, but he fails as I dodge his swing, grasping a rock from the ground and smashing him in the head with it. The rock hits his jaw, sending him to the floor in a tangle of limbs.
