What if someone stole it?
This thought occurs to me as I'm walking to English class.
All day I haven't been able to take my mind off it.
Well, I have just long enough to obsess over my date with Reynie. Oh God, I just called it a date.
I breathe through my teeth as I sit down at my desk stiffly.
If it was stolen, then it must've been someone in Algebra. No one else knows about my notebook. Even Sara doesn't know what's in it...or does she? Maybe she wanted to know why I would never let her look at it, so she stole it. And read it.
I try to convince myself there's no way. She's my best friend! She wouldn't invade my privacy like that!
Still, a feeling of dread knaws at me, even as I leave the classroom.

The worst thing that could happen is if one of my crushes has it. My cheeks turn bright red at the thought. They would never speak to me again.
I shiver.
"Are you okay?" Sara asks, looking across her lunch tray at me.
I give her a feeble thumbs-up.
She hums, unconvinced. "You've been acting weird since Monday."
I shake my head.
She tilts her own head. "Is it because of your date with Reynie?" She leans closer, like she's sharing a secret. "Did something happen you didn't tell me about?"
"No! I told you everything! Nothing happened on our date that I didn't tell you-ugh!"
She smirks. "So it was a date,"
I just slam my tray. "I have to get to class."
