My mind raced, my heart pounding. Where could it be? I had shoved it in my bag after math. I remembered because I'd dropped it in front of everyone. And then I'd left it in my locker before lunch, I was sure of it.
Then where was it?
I pushed aside everything in my locker, but it was nowhere to be found.
Had I dropped it on my way to my locker? No, I would've noticed. Right?
I leaned against the row of lockers, trying to think where it could've gone. I tore apart my locker a second time to no avail.
What if...someone had taken it? What if they thought it was theirs and it somehow got swapped with mine?
But...when could that have happened?
I put it in my bag after math and didn't take it out again till I put it in my locker.
Or had I already lost it by then?
No, I was positive I had put it in my locker. Well, at least, I was mostly sure...I thought....
"Quinn? My mom's here." Sara appeared next to me. She frowned when she saw my face. "You okay?"
"Yep." I squeaked.
She smirked. "Having second thoughts about your date with Reynie?"
I glared at her. "I told you it's not a date! And no."
"What's the matter then? You look like you're about to throw up."
I was a bit worried I might. "Uh, it's nothing. Let's go."
